County Attorney Frank T. Disney and Sheriff Millsaps investigated the Minidoka tract and found five bootlegger establishments. W L McQuain was fined 100 for selling liquor without a license as authorities vow to end such operations near government works. Gambling and houses of ill fame were shut down and violators warned of full prosecution. The piece notes penalties up to 300 fine and six months jail. A social note follows about a Byene couple opening their Cottonwoods home with dancing and a late repast.
In 1905 Lincoln County sees wide growth with Minidoka homesteads, dam and canal projects, and Shoshone rising as a productive hub. The Journal lauds health prosperity and opportunities, highlighting irrigation efforts that will reclaim desert lands and boost county welfare.
An unknown Greek, intoxicated, fell from the temporary foot bridge near the Minidaks dam last Tuesday afternoon and drowned. A thorough search for the body failed to find it. A dispatch notes the Northern Pacific Montana division discharged several alcohol-using staff, as part of a strict anti liquor policy.
Arrangements are complete for a grand ball and banquet at the Opera House tomorrow evening hosted by the Knights of Pythias. Tickets have sold well, signaling financial success, with a four-piece orchestra ready to provide music. The banquet will be at the New Columbia Hotel run by EK Binford, whose service reputation is trusted for the event.
A special meeting will be held at the lodgerooms next Thursday evening to elect officers and organize the gentlemen's amusement club. Every signer of the petition is urged to attend to ensure the move has broad club sanction.
