Garden guidance urges homeowners to start lawn care in March with fertilizers such as ground bone and prepared sheep manure, and to sow fresh seed before freezings end. It recommends compacting and raking lightly, leaving fine manure on top, and using rolling and early high cuts to promote quick establishment.
Miss Houck details a green Christmas in Ceylon at six thousand feet, describing frost, lush mountains, and a school celebration with Tamil carols, a Father Christmas, and gifts despite toy shortages due to wartime ship losses. She urges prayer for local Christians and invites visits home after years away, noting diverse local faiths.
Wilkinson Indiana reports the Senior class play Cranberry Corners repeated Friday night at I C O F hall before a large audience and again Saturday at Markleville with a good crowd. Prof Amick and Miss Helen Beers accompanied the students. Net proceeds exceed one hundred dollars for the school. The class has invitations from Kennard and Charlottesville but will not accept for two or three weeks.
Omer Hufford has been chosen as pastor of the local Christian Church. He will preach on the first and third Sundays each month with regular duties starting April first. He will preach this coming Sunday as a voluntary service since no appointment is set for that day.

Colonel Masters undergoing amputation of the right leg mid thigh after gangrene. Operation at his Warrington home last Saturday morning performed with Dr Kemper of Indianapolis assisted by Drs Wilson and Byers of Shirley Dr Titus and Mrs Paul Trees of Wilkinson. Masters still living though weakened by Brights disease and serious overall condition.
Warrington schools under Principal Ord W. Kuhn will close the year next Thursday March 30. An all day exhibit of school work will be held at the school building, followed by a big noon dinner and a short afternoon program at the church. All patrons are urged to attend.
The Kennard Encampment No 69 of I O O F will confer the Patriarchal degree on several candidates Wednesday night March 22. All Encampment members and townspeople are urged to attend. H A Cox secretary.
Wilkinson Indiana business transfer reports John Yettler selling the interurban building dwelling fixtures and stock to R B Vetter who will operate as future proprietor and agent for the Union Traction company.
Shirley Church announces preaching services Sunday afternoon and evening with a Tuesday evening prayer meeting.
Omer Hufford, pastor, announces Sunday School at 9 30 am and preaching at 10 30 am in BC. Hufford serves as superintendent with volunteer work starting April 1. Sunday notices will decide if evening services proceed. Last Sunday's Sunday School attendance reached 79 with a collection of 1 93.
ME Church notes Rev C W Anderson as pastor with Sunday School at 9 30 led by Edwin Kirkpatrick. Preaching at Shirley Sunday 10 30. no evening services due to revival. By Friday morning there have been 27 conversions. Sunday School totals show Shirley attendance 99, collection 3.29. Wilkinson 65 and 1.23. Willow Branch 87 and 1.52.
Rev C C Beeson pastor and Sunday School superintendent Vernis Kerman lead worship with services Sunday morning at 9 80 and evening at 7 20 with 31 00 terms in focus.
Mrs. Ann Gipe, 78, respected Wilkinson resident, died Friday after cancer of the throat. Funeral Sunday at the Christian church conducted by Rev. F. W. Sumner with a quartet, numerous floral offerings, and many out-of-town attendees listed from Indianapolis to New Jersey.

Otto K. VanMatre age 36 of 206 South Seventh street died Wednesday night after a two week illness from spinal trouble. He was local manager for Indian Refining company and had lived here about three years, formerly of Knightstown. Survived by widow Bessie and one son. Body to Knightstown for burial next Sunday. funeral time and place not yet decided. Mrs. VanMatre is daughter of W. H. Wood of Shirley.
Mrs Allison Frazier aged 72 died at her Hillsboro Indiana home after a long illness. Survived by husband and four daughters Mrs Ed Miller Hillsboro Mrs I H Meredith Moorland Mrs Frank Gebhart Alabama Mrs W R Conwell Mooreland. Funeral Friday at 2 pm Hillsboro church Rev Zerr in charge. Burial Hillsboro Cemetery. News notes she had visited daughter Mrs Gebhart during residence here.
Earl Grunden five year old son of Mr and Mrs Marshall Grunden of New Castle formerly of this place was buried at Mc Cray cemetery Friday. Brief services were conducted by Rev Maurice Barrett with a song or two by former friends and neighbors.
A correction from Sugar Creek correspondence notes the road from Philip Olinger's west to Madison and Hancock county lines will be a 20 foot grade gravel road with no fences moved along the right of way. The change should please nearby residents who felt the prior reports overemphasized costly construction.
J. W. Conkling has purchased the Lege property on the corner of South and First streets and plans to relocate there in the latter part of the year. Remodeling will follow after assessing the site.
Rhue Ann Hines Gipe, born August 2 1837 in Ohio, died March 17 1916 in Wilkinson Indiana aged 78 years 6 months 23 days. Wife of William H Gipe mother of thirteen children eleven now living with 30 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Funeral at Wilkinson Christian church March 19 conducted by Rev F W Sumner. funeral attended by relatives and friends. Buried beside her husband in McCray cemetery.

Earl Grunden born August 21 1910 in Eden Indiana died March 14 1916 at age 5 6 21. He was a bright cheerful boy who fell seriously ill and did not recover despite efforts. He leaves a father Marshall and mother Ethel a brother and many relatives. The family laments the loss with verses about heaven and parting.

The S. L. Club of Shirley Indiana extends heartfelt sympathy to Mrs Reeves and daughters after the death of the member's husband on March 11 1916. A copy of the resolution will be printed in the Shirley paper and filed in club minutes.

The Anti Cant Class of the M. E. Sunday School met Monday evening at Dr Daniels on North Main Street. Maud Wells led with Mary Harvey Clement Wills and Maud Burris assisting. The event honored St Patrick with a class song and prayers. Plans were discussed for a church building fund entertainment as the social featured a geographical contest a Holiday contest and a donkey game enjoyed by twenty four members.
The S. L. Club gathered Tuesday March 21 at Mrs. J. Krider’s home. After business, the program featured a duet by Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Umbenhower with Mrs. Krider on piano, a Current Event paper by Mrs. Welsh, readings by Mrs. O Fagan and Mrs. A Goodwin, a guessing contest won by Mrs. Smith, and a drawing contest won by Mrs. Goodwin. A two course lunch followed and members adjourned saying they had a jolly good time. The next meeting is April 4 at Mrs. Nangle’s White Street home.
A goodly number of the Alpha Club enjoyed St Patrick Day hospitality at the Rynearson home Friday afternoon. Mesdames Marsh Houck Logan Kirkpatrick and Miss Mary Gates presented witty Irish sayings with spice. Mrs Rynearson and sister Mrs Lambden served an excellent lunch. Next meeting will be hosted by Mrs S Hamilton on Friday March 31.
The L and S Club entertained in honor of their mothers at Miss Bertha Hiatt's home Tuesday evening. A pleasing program included duets "Mother" and "Here's to the Mother we Love" by Elsie Reece and Lela Hufford, plus a paper read by Reece and instrumental music by Judkins Hufford and Carroll Rash. Guests and helpers attended, and the club plans to meet with Miss Lela Hufford next Tuesday evening.
A small group marked Mrs Frank Haniin’s birthday anniversary with friends Friday evening at her Illinois street home. Attendees included Mrs Frank Presti Miia Geo Moor and Mrs Stokes, Mrs Joe Msg, and Hosek.
