Mrs. Mary Frnka dies. Eagle Lake Headlight publisher’s wife

Mrs. Mary A. Frnka wife of Fred G. Frnka senior publisher of the Eagle Lake Headlight died Saturday at Laughlin Hospital after a heart attack. A Nada native living in Eagle Lake since 1922 she was honored for 41 years in the Altar Society. Funeral at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Eagle Lake followed by burial in Saint Mary's Nada. Survivors include her husband three daughters and three sons.

Eugene Hermes Elected Lavaca County ASC Committee Chairman

Election held Wednesday September 22 selected a chairman, vice chairman and alternates. Eugene Hermes named chairman with Sadik Mikes as vice chairman. Mike V. Janak elected regular member, Frank A. Jurena first alternate, Edgar Freytag second alternate. Term is one year.

Weekend Rain Delights Lavaca County Farmers

Beneficial slow weekend rains measured from 1.5 to 2 inches across Lavaca County boosting crops. Some areas reported up to 3.20 inches in the Kokr energet area and Shiner East End Addition saw 1.10 inches Thursday and 2.20 during the weekend. Homecoming events scheduled by Shi ner Public School PTO

Homecoming events planned for November 5-6 include a football game at Comanche stadium against Smithville, a large parade, a gym reception for Exes and spouses, class meetings, a PTO sponsored supper at the cafeteria, and an 7 30 pm Old Timers program. Social Security Office Visits Shiner on October 4

A Victoria Texas Social Security Office representative will visit Shiner City Hall at 9 am on Monday October 4 1965 to help residents file retirement survivors or disability claims and answer questions. A 7 percent benefit increase applies to January to August 1965. retroactive checks arrive in September with regular payments adjusted thereafter.

The Lavaca Soil and Water Conservation District plans a conservation tour October 4 starting 1:30 p.m. from the Sweet Home American Legion Hall, returning about 3:30 p.m. for the supervisor election in subdivision No. 2. Gonzales Readies Come and Take It Four Day Celebration

Gonzales Texas launches its Come and Take It Celebration running Thursday through Saturday September 30 to October 2. Highlights include a downtown carnival with the Free-Loaders, greased pig and pole contests, tug of war with Lions Club and Rotary, a 10 a m parade, wreath laying at Texas Hero Square with author Fred Gipson, a barbecue at Independence Park, a home tour and flower show. The event ends with Gonzales High School homecoming game against Beeville at Apache Stadium. The festival commemorates the 1831 battle for the Gonzales cannon and the first Texas flag inscribed Come and Take It.

Grover Johnson, Gonzales resident, dies at 74

Grover Cleveland Johnson of Gonzales County died at a Gonzales nursing home at 10 50 p.m. Saturday September 25 1965. Services were held at Seydler Funeral Home at 10 a.m. Monday September 27 with burial in Hermann Sons Cemetery. He was a retired stockman and Memorial Heights Baptist Church member. Surviving relatives include a daughter Jewel Kelley of Gonzales three sons Glenn Pershing and Grover Lee Johnson a brother Lige Johnson seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

A stillborn son Jimmy Buehring was born to Mr and Mrs Henry Buehring of Shiner at Cuero Hospital Foundation. Rev F E Eilers conducted the 10 am service at Buffington Chapel with graveside rites at Shiner City Cemetery. Survived by parents two brothers and one sister, grandparents and great grandmother.
