St Paul-SLA Fall Festival October 1 Coronation at Legion Park

The St Paul and St Ludmila Academy P-TC host a Fall Festival on Sunday October 1 1972 starting at 2 pm with antique car rides a parcel post stand house of horrors smash the car and country store plus fish pond grab bag and home made ice cream and candy. An auction begins at 3 pm featuring cakes and goods followed by chicken noodle soup and sandwiches at 4 pm. Coronation at 8 pm in Legion Hall and Velvets dance at 9 pm offer public entertainment.

Autopsy Indicates 15YearOld Yoakum Girl Died From Car Crash

A partial autopsy report found Lecleda Hamil 15 died instantly from a ruptured heart and internal injuries after a car struck her on a Lavaca County road at 4 30 am Monday. The driver Warren T Buesing 19 notified the sheriff. Investigation continues as officials review dates and possible recent encounters.

Walter A Kulhanek of Shiner Texas died September 17 1972 at his mother’s home. Funeral at Shiner Catholic Church September 20 with Rev Msgr John J Hanacek presiding. Burial in Shiner Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers included Robert Matias Wayne Johnson and others. A WW II veteran and former POW, he served in Co C 424th Infantry Reg in Rhineland and Central Europe. Survived by mother Frances Kulhanek son Walter Kulhanek Jr eight daughters and two brothers. several siblings predeceased him. He received multiple decorations including Purple Heart and European African Middle East Campaign Medal. Rosary held September 19 at Buffington Funeral Home. The 1973 Ford introduction day prizes awarded at Boehm Motor Sales with winners named.

Frances Chilek of Route 2 Shiner died at home at 7 30 a m Thursday September 21 1972 aged 80 years 3 months 26 days Funeral held at 10 00 a m Saturday September 23 at St Joseph s Catholic Church Yoakum with Requiem Mass conducted by Rev Michael O Shaughnessy Bearers were her nephews John Chilek Herman Mylius J E Mudd all of Yoakum Rudy Chilek of Houston August Polasek of Floresville and Felix Chilek of Friday September 22 at Buffington Funeral Home Chapel Yoakum She was born May 25 1892 near Sweet Home Lavaca County daughter of Peter and Julia Vasek Chilek natives of Moravia Her family came to America about 1881 and settled in Lavaca County The family later moved to the present farm home where she resided until her death Two nieces Beth and Martha Chilek lived with her She was one of 12 children Survivors include a brother Fred Chilek of Yoakum and numerous nieces and nephews She was preceded in death by her father February 24 1913 mother December 17 1926 four sisters and five brothers with dates listed as per family records.

Louis W. Drabek of Houston died September 22 1972 at Golden Age Manor at age 60 years 9 months 17 days. Services were at Saints Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church with burial in Shiner Catholic Cemetery. He worked for the City of Houston 25 years retiring in 1971. He was survived by three brothers and a sister.
