Prospective Cub Scouts ages seven to eleven must have a household member present to attend a training course Friday night at 7:30 at City Hall in Shiner. ER. LC. Newman, Scout Executive of Yoakum, directs, with Hallettsville leaders and parents invited to attend and bring a guest.
Aug Wenske bought Otto Turek's interest in the Gulf Service Station and took charge Tuesday. Wishes for success in the new place of business.

Ernest Hajek and Emil Novak homes got fresh paint. Mr and Mrs R H Wilson spent Sunday with his parents in Yoakum. His father has been confined to bed for months. Mr and Mrs Olen Culbersen of Austin visited their niece Mrs Gus Wolters at the local hospital Sunday.
Sunday School at 9 a m and Divine Service at 10 a m in German, 7:30 p m in English. Wednesday October 4 Ladies Aid. Saturday 8:30 a m Shiner 10:30 a m Dreyer. Immanuel Lutheran Church announces English services on the first Sunday each month at 3:00 p m and German services on the third Sunday at 10:00 a m Pastor O C Schreiner invites all to attend with a note that those who hear God’s call are welcome.
Miss Christine Kurtz became the bride of Johnnie Dierschke at Sts Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church on Tuesday Sept 26 at 8 o'clock. Monsignor Netardus performed the ceremony with witnesses Jerry Kurtz and Edwin Dierschke. Bridesmaids were Lillie Kurtz and Lorene Leck. groomsmen Ben Dierschke and Arthur Wick. flower girl Dorothy Mae Ulcak. ring bearer James Dietschke. The bride, daughter of Jim Kurtz, wore bridal satin with lace, bouquet of chrysanthemums and fern. The groom, son of Frank Dietschke, wore a dark suit. A dinner and supper followed at the bride parents' home, then a wedding dance at Herman Sons Hall, Molton, with Ad Mig's orchestra. The couple will reside on Joe Darilek homestead in Baursville. The Gazettes and friends wish them a long, happy life.

Pupils of Speech and Expression present their first recital of the term on Friday night October 6 at the City Auditorium starting at 7:45. Admission is free. Public cordially invited and urged to attend.
E A Turk Assessor Collector announces he will be in Shiner on Friday and Saturday, October 6 and 7, to collect State and County taxes. Taxpayers urged to bring necessary receipts and records for payment and verification.
The city reports a construction surge with new residences for E. J. Wesselsky family near Mrs. B. Fehrenkamp, John Marek family near his Filling Station and Grocery, Rudolf Siegel adjoining the Marek place, and Henry Kloesel family moving to the former Fritz Zacharias house near the Methodist church.
Mrs. Lahodny resides in the residence she recently purchased from Rud Siegel located in the south end of town.
Lavaca County schools will start the compulsory attendance period on Monday October 2, according to County Superintendent W A Eilers. The announcement confirms the new attendance rule and start date for Lavaca.
Aug Wenske announces he has acquired the local Gulf Service Station from Otto Turek and will offer Gulf Products and minor repair work. He asks friends and the public for a share of their patronage.
The Methodist Sunday School plans an annual Rally and Promotion Day next Sunday with aims of full attendance. At a recent quarterly conference at Hallettsville, superintendents were elected for Children, Young People, Adult, Missions and General divisions. Teachers and officers were chosen for Beginners, Primaries, Juniors, Intermediates, and various Bible classes with W C Schmidt as Secretary Treasurer. The annual conference in San Antonio on October 18 will assign pastoral appointments, with local desire to keep Rev A Guyon on the charge and appeal to the Bishop through Rev S Hover to extend his stay for a sixth year.
Expressions of regret fill our town as Reverend J W S, pastor of the local Baptist Church for the past four years, accepts a call from Alamo Heights Baptist Church in San Antonio and will depart Saturday. Reverend S was a zealous leader, loved by his congregation, and his departure leaves a notable vacancy in our community.
In Shiner 1925 bales of cotton were weighed as part of a routine tally. Midway reports 190 bales of cotton weighed to date, indicating ongoing monitoring of supply and shipments.
Lester, 13, son of Mrs. Hettie Tietjen, was kicked by a horse Monday and suffered a broken jaw bone. After medical attention he is able to be up and about.
Newly elected Wesley Bible Class Methodist Church officers include President Mrs Rudie Valenta Vice President Mrs Arthur Kaspar Secretary Treasurer Mrs James Burke Teacher Mrs Ella Lane Assistant Teacher Mrs Rosanna Howard. Committees cover Worship Fellow ship Missionary and Cheer with named members.
The Shiner High School junior class elected Elvin Svoboda president Daniel Cizek vice president Joyce Cannon secretary Irene Filip treasurer and Caroline Valenta reporter under sponsor Miss Staples. The class flower is Calendula colors are gold and green and the motto is Back ward never forward ever.
The first year Home Economics girls organized a Home Econom ics club on Tuesday September 19. Officers elected include President Mae Jean Faulkner Secretary Viola Macha and Reporter Lak Thrudie Sonn tag. Next meeting planned for the latter part of October.

Mrs Vlasta Marburger operator of the Marburger Beauty Shop received a certificate from the Gabrielene Co Inc for completing the prescribed course of study in her profession. She was judged on a required amount of work and upon satisfactory performance earned the certificate of efficiency.
Mr and Mrs Frank Raindl and daughter Josephine of Lynn County visited relatives in Hal lettsville and report good crops. Benno Holchak and Arno Wagener families were weekend visitors to Houston and Goliad. Miss Joyce Jean Cannon stayed in Houston with her mother. Mrs Fred Kasper and daughter Evelyn of Hermleigh visited Shiner relatives and Hallettsville before returning home. Edgar Wolters family spent Sunday in Schulenburg with Mrs Wolters staying to assist ailing mother. Mrs Ed Mueller recovering from Galveston operation expected home Sunday. John Kloesel Sr. in bad health after a fall and hip injury last Tuesday.
Members of St. Ludmila's P T A will meet Monday at 3 30 p m with plans and updates on school activities and upcoming events for parents and students.
A Farmers League Meeting will be held at City Hall on Tuesday evening October 3. All requested to be present.
The Lutheran Ladies Aid expresses sincere thanks to all who helped at the ice cream social. Special appreciation to pastors who spoke, Rev. Jacobs of Moulton for remarks, the Kasper Band, and everyone who assisted contributing to a total of $68.00.
The Moulton Masonic Lodge hosted lodges from nearby towns for a Thursday night barbecue featuring chicken and mutton, plus a short program. Principal speaker was Mr. J. W. Cook of Yoakum. Attending Shiner Lodge members included W. E. Trep tow, Percy Garbade, Dr. J. W. Turek, F. R. Mergenthaler and others.
The Catholic Youth Organization met in the Parish Hall with a prayer to start. Minutes were read and approved. Rt Rev Mons Netardus spoke on Catholic papers in the home. Joe Roeder was elected corresponding secretary. Delegates named for San Antonio rally include Ella Seidenberger Joe Havel Edmund Roeder Adolf Seidenberger Elvera Ullmann and Anna Marie Muras. Mons offered $25 for a library opening. Meetings set for the second and last Wednesdays each month with business then social. Mons and Fr Bily debated Something is wrong with Catholics with Mons declared winner.
Floresville to host a two day Peanut Festival with a 10 am Friday parade featuring bands floats and displays. Friday includes an old time barn dance by Peanut Thrashers Orchestra and free exhibits downtown. Saturday marks Pioneer and Old Settler's Day with a pet parade a courthouse gathering old time music and an Old Fiddlers Contest. Coronation of Queen Tunnep and King Reboog at the high school auditorium followed by a Queens Ball. Dean Hal V. Warren presides with Valley Shows carnival acts and a Battery D reunion plus barbecue.
Mrs H H Hepler returned from a trip to California on Thursday. Miss Beth Howard of our city spent the past week with relatives and friends in Eagle Lake. On Monday she entered the nurses training school at Jefferson Davis Hospital in Houston.
Bennie Patek son of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Patek was accidentally shot in the leg while hunting. A 7 1 2 bird shot load from a .410 rifle entered above the ankle, and he was rushed to town for medical care. The high school graduate and basketball standout remained in serious condition Wednesday morning at the local hospital.
Edward Emken aged 73 died in San Antonio and was buried in Herman Son Cemetery Hochheim. Survivors include wife Ida, son Arthur, daughter Mrs. Oscar Schmidt, three brothers and four sisters, two grandchildren. Former Dreyer resident highly respected in the community.

Dismissed patients are W O Swindall of Shiner Mrs Frances Hanak of Caldwell Jim Koncaba of Moulton Mrs Fred Nieman and baby of Flatonta.
Mr and Mrs Fred welcomed a baby boy on September 21 at the local hospital. The newborn weighed unspecified pounds.
Farewell message from former operator thanking patrons for years of support at Gulf Filling Station and expressing best wishes to buyer Aug Wenske. They hope customers continue their patronage with the new owner and wish him success.
