Public weigher L M Roeder tallies 7242 bales weighed through Tuesday night September 25 with 800 bales unweighed from gins. If added, total potential bales reach about 8042 in Shiner area, with forecasts the season may reach 10000 bales.
The American Legion post asked local business men to close on Tuesday October 9th to observe Parade Day instead of Armistice Day. The National Convention opens in San Antonio that week and members and their families want to attend, prompting shops to shut for the event.
A special train to San Antonio can be secured for all on October 9 pending 150 signatures. Train departs Shiner at 5 30 AM and returns from San Antonio at 11 00 PM arriving Shiner about 2 00 AM. Sign up with O S T Meyer to arrange. Roundtrip fare priced at 2 60.
Mr and Mrs P R Otto celebrate the arrival of a son on September 18. Paul jokes that he is another Chevrolet salesman. Best wishes for a long and useful life to Clyde Rupert Otto.
Mildred Bertha Rogge arrived September 21 to gladden the home of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Rogge. The family is wished happiness and blessings as they welcome the newborn into their circle.
Ornamental lights mounted on 12 ft metal poles with 300 watt white rippled globes illuminate the new City Hall. The glow promises a bright white way for Shi ner and aids the Fire Department. White Venetian blinds have been installed throughout the building in other improvements.
Tuesday October 9 businesses in Shiner will close so residents may attend the Big Legion Parade in San Antonio. Arrangements include a possible special train and the list of closings features Wolters Bros to Emil Bonorden and many local firms and services.
Boundary and Kopecky Schools will open Monday October 1 and urge all pupils to be in attendance on opening day. Trustees Frank A. Richa and Rudolf Fillip issued the notice.
Members of Bluecher Lodge are informed the next regular meeting will be held Sunday September 30 replacing October 7. The notice directs members to attend at the usual lodge venue as per schedule.
Red Cross sent a little over $100 in contributions for Florida sufferers. More funds are needed and donations can be left at Farmers State Bank.
The Boy Scouts held a regular session on September 18 1928. Four new patrol leaders were appointed and assigned each scout under a leader. Each leader must have non first class scouts pass two first class requirements before the next meeting or a new leader will be elected. The group adjourned to meet on Tuesday September 25 1928.
A slow continuous rainfall last Saturday proved widespread and timely, easing drought concerns and benefiting fields and gardens nationwide as storms lingered over regional areas.
Banjes School principal Mrs Chovanetz announces the opening next Monday October 1st. This marks the start of compulsory school attendance for all children who are expected to report. Assistant Mrs Alfred Brosch assists.

Rain forced cancellation of the Shiner Catholic Parish annual Bazaar and Feast last Sunday. The event will be held outdoors at Biuecher Park on Sunday, October 7, with parish organizers urging community attendance.
