Turn Over the New Leaf at Once

A call to debtors urging prompt payment in full to avoid being labeled undesirable in La Vaca County stores. The message stresses voluntary reform and moving names to good status by paying statements immediately. It warns public conscience will force fair dealing with creditors if payments are delayed.

Teachers Helen Ruhmann and Stella Morgenroth Head to Moulton Institute

Miss Helen Ruhmann and Stella Morgenroth depart Sunday for Moulton to teach at the Sam and Will Moore Institute. Mr and Mrs Sam McMurray have spent the week at Shiner hospital with their young daughter who has been quite ill.

Germania Fire Insurance Officers Elected at Sept. Meeting

At a meeting held on Sept. 8, the Germania Fire Insurance Association elected officers for 1905. John C. Blohm was chosen president with G. W. Eschenburg as secretary and treasurer. Directors named include D. Stindt, W. Goesch, and Aug Kasper as appraisers.

Opening of St Ludmila's School in Shiner Marks New Term

Sept 15 opened St Ludmila's School amid stormy roads and good attendance. Fr X Wolf led Mass and Benediction. pupils matriculated and dismissed at noon as per tradition. Boarders come from Shiner Yoakum Sweet Home East Bernard Path. Teachers optimistic, awaiting new basketball and tennis sets. Dean Sheehan visiting. cotton price set at 36 cents in New Orleans last week, not yet achieved locally.

Storm of 1919 Hits Texas Coast and Inland Areas

The storm battered Brownsville, Galveston, and surrounding towns with high winds and heavy rain. Communications failed across the lower coast as the hurricane moved inland toward Corpus Christi, Rockport, and Aransas Pass, with reports of loss of life and property damage. The Weather Bureau in Washington stated the tropical Arricane had apparently passed the Gulf Coast.

Annual Eastern Star Session In Masonic Hall

Rhiner Chapter 272 of the Order Eastern Star held a session at the Masonic Hall. Miss Clara Fergenthaler received the degrees as the initiates. a program followed with songs, trios, readings, and remarks. New officers were elected and praised for their work while cake was served to attendees.

Senior Epworth League Hosts Moonlight Picnic on Campus

The Senior Epworth League finally celebrated at the shell beach on the high school campus after continuous rain delayed their picnic and camp supper. Members and friends enjoyed a lively supper and a good time. The poles and see-saws drew heavy patronage.

Mr and Mrs H H Striebeek hosted a Friday night Forty Two game party for guest Miss Maude Dunn of Freeport. Eddie Drabek won first prize a candy box, L G Valenta took consolation, and Stella Wolters with P A Wendtland performed musical selections before punch and cake. Shiner Builds Large New Catholic Church

The Southern Messenger describes a forthcoming Shiner Catholic Church as a grand Romanesque brick structure 61 by 160 feet with a 125 foot central tower. It will seat across a rear corridor, have three front entrances two side doors and two rear doors. The cost is about 80000 dollars and the builders are Vincent Falbo and architect James Wahrenger.

Local Family Visits Return from Port Lavaca and Cuero

Mrs E Runk and her grandson Harold Runk Drawe returned Saturday from Port Lavaca. Mr and Mrs A Louwein and their daughter joined them on the trip back Monday. West Amsler arrived from Cuero to attend school and stays with his grandmother Mrs Sophia Amsler.
