The following schools are scheduled to open on Monday September 16 with all pupils required to be present: Burjes Menger Kopecky Boundary Line Green Michna Beasley Evergreen.
First Baptist Church announces a revival starting Sunday Sept 15 with a visiting singer. Sunday School 10 a.m. Sermon 11 a.m. Training Union 6:30 p.m. Evening services 7:45 p.m. Weekday service Wednesday 7:30 p.m. Morning services at 9 a.m. Pastor to preach and singer to lead singing. All visitors welcome.
The Methodist Church lists 10:00 a m Sunday School and an 8 p m Quarterly Conference at Hallettsville on September 12. Beginning next Tuesday Mrs John Palmer of Nixon will teach a class for parents and teachers of the Childrens Division with sessions in Hallettsville and Shiner over four nights.
United Dr Martin Church invites all to a series of services and meetings led by Rev Eilers from Swiss Alp. A Saturday Instruction Class and a Social Feast at Blucher Park are planned for the 29th with lunch and entertainment for all. Rev Richard Schuetze urges keeping the Sabbath and worshiping the Lord.
Christian Science services announce the Sunday Lesson-Sermon on September 15 at 11 am with the Golden Text from Romans 8 25 and a Bible citation from Malachi 3 10 urging tithes to be brought into the storehouse and promises blessings.
Emmanuel Lutheran Church announces English services on the second Sunday of each month at 3 0 p m and German services on the fourth Sunday at 3 p m Pastor Henry C Nickel invites visitors to attend.
The Most Rev. Arthur Jerome Drossaerts archbishop of San Antonio since 1927 died at Santa Rosa Hospital. Funeral rites are planned for Thursday at San Fernando Cathedral with a temporary administrator to lead the archdiocese pending papal appointment. He built churches and schools, led about 200000 Catholics, and was the first Roman Catholic archbishop of San Antonio.
The Rt. Rev. Peter J. Schnetzer of San Antonio was named administrator of the archdiocese, replacing the late Archbishop Arthur J. Drossaerts. He has been pastor of St. Joseph's parish for 24 years and was vicar general at the time of the archbishop's death. The appointment was made by six archdiocesan consultors at the archbishop's home on Dwyer Avenue.
Miss Viola A. Kercho and Charles J. Patek were married Tuesday at Shiner Catholic Church in a ceremony by Rev. Ed Bily. The couple, both from prominent local families, planned a reception and dance at Midway hall followed by a home to start their married life with Patek’s Grocery and Service Station employment.
Albert Bonorden Sr. an 81 year old Hallettsville resident died Sunday at 2 a.m. after two years of ill health. He married Martha Miller about 57 years ago and leaves a large family including children Gus Emil Albert Leonard and several daughters. He was a Lutheran and funeral services were held Monday at 3 p.m. at the home and Pagel Settlement Cemetery with Rev. A. D. Klages officiating. Geiger-Beck Funeral Home supervised arrangements. The family and community mourn his loss and honor a life of kindness.
The Gazette offers condolences to the bereaved survivors in a solemn notice, extending sympathy and support during the loss and recognizing the grieving family.
The C Y O will hold its monthly meeting on Thursday September 12 at 8 at the Parish Hall. All members are urged to attend as important business will be discussed.

Miss Mary Valis and Joe Kotrlik wed in a ceremony at the local church officiated by Rev. Ed Bily. Attendants were Stella Kotrick and family members. a small party included ring bearer Little Jimmy Valis and flower girl Annie Chlastak. After a dinner at the bride’s parents, the couple left for a trip to Old Mexico and will reside in Smithville.
The Shiner Sluggers defeated the Boothel girls 8 to 5 on the local diamond. Lorene Michalec hit a home run along with Viola Broz and Mildred Mauschild. Sluggers lineup includes Lorene Michalec Arlene Koenning Izzy Maline Viola Broz Mildred Hauschild Dolly Leazer Mabel Barr Ethel Hauschild Pearl Stoeltje Evelyn Mueller subs Ruby Cook Lorraine Osborn.
Meyers Modern Cafe installed a Friedrich counter refrigerator Friday morning. It is touted as the only one in the county with a waterless, coil free system that keeps beverages cold and sanitary, inviting patrons to sample the difference.
The Shiner All Stars boys team and the Shiner Sluggers girls team will travel to Victoria Thursday night to officially close the softball season. There will be no games on the local diamond that night. The play-off series will resume after Thursday.

Henry Harms aged 78 dies Wednesday at 1 45 a m. Funeral services take place Thursday at 2 p m at the home of his sister Mrs Anna Bohmann with burial in City Cemetery. A write up will appear in the next issue.
On October 6 the Fire men's District Convention will be held in Shiner. Committees seek donations of cake and salad from town ladies. The volunteer Fire Department provides assistance without compensation and deserves consideration.
On Wednesday at 3 o clock Fred Felix Baros was laid to rest in City Cemetery. Rev. Paul Bechter performed the rites. A mixed choir sang at home and grave. Casket-bearers were O S T Meyer Ed Fischner Oliver Heinsohn Rudie Baros H G Mueller and J B Watson. Many friends attended from Corpus Christi and beyond including James Baros El Campo and numerous Baros relatives.
Social gathering at Blucher Park planned for Sunday September 15 invites attendees to bring friends and enjoy a fine dinner together at the park setting.
Saturday September 14 cleaners invited to join trustees and school patrons for a community cleanup at Green School. Volunteers asked to help with tasks around the campus and grounds.
The Shiner Compress and Warehouse Company is approved to store lean cotton and will begin receiving the cotton. Notes will be taken up immediately by the First National Bank, Shiner.
Monsignor L. P. Netardus and Rev. E. Bily spent Tuesday in San Antonio for a routine clerical visit and meetings with local parish leaders. The trip highlighted church community activities and outreach.
Tex Ritter brings Pals of the Silver Sage to the Palace Theatre this Friday and Saturday. The rodeo themed western feature stars Ritter as one of the world’s youngest rodeo performers in a period adventure.
Shiner Public School notes describe teachers and classes for the new year. Carolyn Glass teaches four Home Economics classes. Oder handles two mathematics and two American History classes with about fifty five in History. Ellis runs two typing classes plus junior business training and coaching duties. Pohler covers English and serves as librarian. Auld oversees a large Civics class and a World History class while serving as superintendent. Liebhafsky teaches German in the afternoon. Cammack runs three science classes and leads the school band. Bookkeeping and Trigonometry are not taught this semester due to demand. Clubs will organize next week with reports to follow.
Last week seven volleyball squads were formed by the high school girls. Captains include Evelyn Kloesel Kit Tennes Pearl Steektie Loraine Osborn Gladys Barr Irene Filip Viola Broz Arleen Koening. Caroline Valenta elected reporter. Practices in Physical Education under Miss Hertha Liebhafsky and Miss Carolyn Glass. Top two teams play Friday for the championship.
The Shiner Tuskegee School for colored pupils opens Monday morning on September 16 at 9 o’clock. Colored children should report for enrollment and book issuance. The eight month term will run this year.
Mr and Mrs William Grant welcome a 10 pound daughter named Frances Irene born Saturday September 7.
A 10 1-4 pound son arrived to become permanent quarters with Mr. and Mrs. Willie H. Kloesel on Monday September 9. The baby will be called Maxie William.
A baby girl Jewel Earline Needham was born to Mr and Mrs Earl Needham of Milton on September 10 at the local hospital.

On Tuesday morning at 8 00 Rev E Bily united in marriage Miss Marie Wagner daughter of Mrs Mary Wagner and Benjamin Zissa son of Mr and Mrs Jim Zissa at the local Catholic Church with Martin Dusek and Wm Zissa as witnesses. The bridesmaids Misses Louise and Justine Dusek wore pink dresses and carried pink carnations. The bride wore white satin with wreath and veil and an arm bouquet of white carnations. The groom wore teal blue. A wedding feast followed at the bride's home and the couple will reside with the bride's mother.
