Foe R. Elsik Veteran Succumbs in Houston Hospital
Joe R. Elsik of Shiner Texas died after an extended illness in Houston Veterans Hospital. Funeral services were held at Buffington Funeral Home and Czech Moravian Brethren Church with full military honors for World War I veteran Joe R. Elsik born May 20 1890 in Shiner. Survivors include three brothers and five sisters plus a number of nieces and nephews.

Henry Tietjen Pioneer Citizen Laid To Rest
Henry Tietjen died Tuesday September 2 at 10 15 PM at his family home in Shiner at age 83. The funeral Friday September 5 at 2 PM at Buffington Funeral Home was conducted by Rev S R Horwood of Shiner Methodist Church. A mixed choir sang two hymns and he was buried beside his wife in Shiner City Cemetery. casket attendants were grandsons and other relatives. He was born July 29 1869 in Welcome Austin County and came to Lavaca County at 17, later living in Half Moon before Shiner. He married Anna Morgenroth in 1891 and had four children, two sons and two daughters. He leaves 12 grandchildren 16 great grandchildren and a sister. The speaker noted Lavaca County loses a long respected pioneer. May his final reward be peace.

Buckshot Lane dropped his contest against U S Rep Clark W Thompson the Ninth District winner. Attorney Everett Looney said the suit aimed to verify machine totals matched official returns as a state inquiry in Galveston county continued.

Edwin John Walleck Jr. aged 21 died in a car crash on the Boggy Creek bridge near Shiner early Sunday September 7. He was born in Shiner on August 2 1932 and had been working in Houston. services held at Shiner Catholic Church with Knights of Columbus and funeral rites by Rev. Hanacek. Survivors include his parents two brothers two sisters and two grandmothers.

A Sunday early morning bridge collision near Shiner on Highway 200 left Edwin Walleck Jr. dead. Edwin Mraz and Clinton Clay survived injuries after a 1935 Ford Coupe struck the wrecked car on the bridge.
