Funeral services for Henry Tietjen, aged 83, will be held Friday at Buffington Funeral Home in Shiner at 2 PM. Burial follows in Shiner City Cemetery. Mr Tietjen died Tuesday night at 10 15.
Public Weigher L M Roeder reports 5655 bales of new cotton received up to Tuesday night September 2. The September 4 1951 total was 6468 bales. 2357 bales arrived since last week. Roeder notes assistant Alton Tieken did not report the bales stacked in the Spoetzl pasture beside the Compress, which is overflowing.
Mrs Ella E Lane editor of the Shiner Gazette returned home Monday night after a three month visit with Dr and Mrs Billy Plageman and family in Stockton California She had been on the ailing list for a month due to a virus infection and noted earthquakes sleeping sickness polio and other woes in the region of her travels.
The school opens Monday September 8 at 8 30 AM with a Holy Mass. Parents should bring children for Mass and return after books are handed out. First two weeks school runs 8 00 AM to 2 00 PM to allow field work by students. Faculty includes Sisters M Francis Beatrice Eugene Helen and others in grades and high school. Boys sports overseen by Father Collins and Mr Williford.
Aerial photo confirmed the Joe Caka farm three miles west of Shiner adjacent to the original Halfmoon townsite. Caka, who bought the 69 acre parcel in 1948, raises 30 acres in pasture and grazes about 15 livestock. The Cakas, active Catholics, live in a modern home with a new chicken house and farm support from local neighbors who identified the property.
Shiner All-Stars earned the Hallettsville Rotary All-Round Sportsmanship Trophy after a 4 to 0 loss to Weimar in the Rotary Tournament. Elton Zander led Shiner with praise for clean play while Weimar won the championship over La Grange 3 to 1.
All directors and members of the Shiner Chamber of Commerce are reminded of a second noon-day session to be held Thursday at noon at the Shiner Dine Inn. Dinner will be provided if the secretary is notified by 9:00 AM Thursday morning.
The Shiner High School P T A will hold a rummage sale on Saturday September 13. Donations may be left with Mrs Glade Welhausen.
The Shiner High School Band will hold practice at the high school gym on Friday September 5 at 6 00 PM. All members are expected to attend.
Funeral services for Mrs. Henrietta Stoeltje 77 were held Tuesday at United Dr. Martin Luther Church with Rev. Edwin J. Oehlke officiating. Burial was in Witting Cemetery. Surviving are daughter Mrs. Ben Riske, sons Herbert and Ella Stoeltje, grand daughter Janice Riske, sister Sophie Stoeltje and brother Theo Rogge. husband Henry deceased 1920.
Community Band Club sponsors a new Community Calendar with birthday and anniversary listings. Each listing requires a 25 cent contribution. Mrs. Stoeltje had a long decline after a 1930 leg fracture and health issues after 1935. After a major operation six years ago she grew bedridden and suffered severe pain, finally passing August 31 at 4:40 PM in the local hospital.
Registration for all Shiner Public School students is set for Friday September 12 from 8 30 to 11 AM High school registration is directed by Max Seidenberger and grade school by Paul Reed Ralph Perkins handles the Negro school registrations Buses run on regular lines with early schedules for two weeks opening at 7 45 AM and dismissing at 2 45 PM Parents urged to ensure attendance Supt Neal B Fox to assist bus access to non riders Age 6 by December 1 1952 may ride with per capita tuition of 65 dollars first grade crowded may limit unders
The United Dr. Martin Luther Church shifts worship to 10 15 AM starting September 7 with Church School at 9 00 AM. Annual Sunday School Promotion and Rally Day are set for September 28, and the new Church School year begins October 5 inviting new students to enroll. Parents are urged to bring children to Sunday School.
Chamber of Commerce members meet Thursday September 4 at noon at the Shiner Dine Inn. K of C Holy Communion service next Sunday at 6 30 PM. C D A meets September 8 at 8 15 PM in the Parish Gym to discuss Cuero district meeting. St Ludmila PTA meets September 8 at 3 30 PM. K J T Lodge No 10 meets September 14 at 1 30 PM. O E S Chapter 272 meets September 9 at 8 PM.
Funeral services were held September 1 for John E. Kuchar who died August 30 at 5 55 PM after a long illness. Requiem High Mass at St Ann’s near Yoakum with Msgr Jos Pustka officiating. Burial in St Ann’s Cemetery. Family and lodge members attended.
Joe Patek announces the new Locker Plant in Shiner is operational and ready for use. Testing of equipment finished this week and lockers are available on a first come, first served basis with public invitation to inspect the installation today.
