Notice lists nominees for Community Committeemen and Delegates in Lavaca County ASC elections. Ballots mailed August 26 must be in office by September 6. late or missing ballots may be obtained at the Lavaca County ASC Office Hallettsville. Numerous candidate names span Communities A through T with multiple nominees per group.

The Texas Public Safety Commission designates September 1 as the start of the 1961 motor vehicle inspection period with 4 700 inspection stations ready to issue new stickers for more than 4.5 million vehicles. The period runs to April 15, 1961 and stickers must be displayed by April 16, 1961. Colonel Homer Garrison Jr notes the program reduces accidents and urges motorists to inspect before bad weather. The fee is 1 dollar plus any required repairs. 1960 average total was 2 dollars per vehicle.
Johnnie F. Hajek of Shiner and brothers Gene and Emil Hajek Jr. of Hallettsville join 4,500 John Deere dealers for the biggest sales meeting of its kind in Dallas. They will preview the new tractor line debuting in late September as airlines and venues prepare to host the massive gathering.
Multiple birth notices list parents and hospitals across Sugar Land Shiner Yoakum Hallettsville and Houston with babies born from August 12 to August 31. Names include Randy Lee Martin Dale Dorothy Dorothy Karen Sue and a 2 pound 11 ounce girl. Grandparents great grandparents and siblings are named for each birth.
Many donations spill over from a Saturday rummage sale as a large quantity of articles remain. The sale will reopen Saturday morning at 8 o clock and run for three hours until 11.

Mrs. Joe Foster 54, longtime Kingsville resident, died in a Houston hospital after a long illness. Funeral held Friday at Cage- Piper Funeral Home Chapel with Emma Johnston officiating. Survived by daughter Mrs. W. S. Jones of Fort Worth and son John Tyler Foster Jr. of Houston, plus sisters and brothers across Texas and California. Burial at Chamberlain Burial Park. Mrs. Foster was born Josie Schmidt of Shiner and an alumna of Shiner High School class of 1921.
Funeral services for Mrs. Minna Krueger 83 wife of the late Albert L. Krueger were held at New Ulm Lutheran Church with Rev. Milroy Gregor officiating and burial in New Ulm Cemetery. She was born August 4 1877 in Cat Spring and died at Cozy Rest Home. She is survived by three daughters a son four sisters and four brothers among others.
Texas game wardens reported 501 arrests in August with 400 for fishing without the $2.15 license. Unlucky hunters faced charges for hunting from autos, taking deer, ducks, quail, and curfew violations. Two fishermen paid fines for "telephoning" an electrical device to take fish. Fines and costs totaled $8,514.80 per the Game and Fish Commission director of law enforcement.
Plans continue for the erection of a new Methodist Church in Shiner. Committees meeting previous week include the Fellowship Program Committee with Elton Zander as chairman and members Mmes. Aug Baca, Ernest Hajek, W L Henkhaus, Benno Holchak, Annie McGinty, Wilbur Minear, Walter Paul, Willie Tenberg, Rudie Valenta, Gus Wolters, R A Williford, and Frank Steiner with W C Schmidt. The Administrative Program committee convened Tuesday at the First National Bank. members are Ray Welhausen, chairman, Chas Chovanetz, George Herder, Benno Holchak, Wilbur Minear, Ernest Pruetz, Gus Wolters, R A Williford, and Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Null and Mrs. Ray Welhausen.

Kaspar Wire Works reports a record order from The Philadelphia Inquirer for 500 coin operated Sho Rack units with another 500 on the way. Production runs 400 to 500 monthly as major newspapers nationwide adopt the durable racks.
A Sunday social to aid the Shiner Cemetery Association will be held at Legion Park on September 11 starting at 3 00 p m. Sandwiches cake and coffee will be served and other entertainment planned. Attendees asked to bring cake or donate such items as shortening sugar or coffee.
Dr. John A. Doyle of San Antonio presided over the installation of Mon Signor Netardus Local Assembly No 3081 of Shiner and Yoakum General Assembly No 1582 at Swank Restaurant Sunday August 28. Fifty fourth degree members attended along with Fathers John J. Hanacek and Ben Kaminski. Officers for both assemblies were installed and a banquet followed.
Hospital census shows numerous names including Felix Hubner Alvin Boehm Johnnie Knezek Shiner Angelia Drozd and others. Dismissed patients include Mrs Mary Tomasko Frank Pulkrabek Otto Meyer Elorine Wenske and more.
The first USDA estimate puts Texas 1960 cotton at 4 375 000 bales, below 1959 by about 125 000, with heavy August rains and late harvest. National yield tops 14.471 million bales, while High Plains projections from 23 counties hint at 1.899 million, and acreage allocations total 15.531 million acres under the federal plan.
Monday September 5 is a legal holiday. All business houses schools and the Post Office will close. Housewives urged to secure shopping needs through Saturday as firms reopen Tuesday morning.
The Shiner Rotary Club hosted District Governor Donald Eastland of Hillsboro who gave an inspirational talk. He highlighted Rotary’s global reach with over 10 600 clubs and 500 000 members and urged attendance at the Waco district conference in March 1961 and the Tokyo International Convention in May.
The U S Navy Recruiting Service announces an accelerated program offering ex regulars across more than 150 rates a chance to reenlist within four years of discharge in the same rating. Edward Radimak of the Victoria recruiting station urges ex Navy personnel to contact him for current details and eligibility.
Public weigher L M Roeder reports 1 840 bales of new cotton received up to Tuesday night August 30 1960. Comparisons show prior August totals and yearly weights back to 1954 with large fluctuations. Also note film ad and car safety line items interspersed in text.
