Shiner Texas bond election set for September 16 1938
The City of Shiner Texas orders a special election for a 100000 bond issue to fund waterworks improvements and street paving. voters must own property, ballots read For the issuance of bonds or Against the issuance of bonds. The Mayor Adolph Richter posts notice at City Hall and in a local newspaper. In a separate incident Frank Heidaker aged 48 shot his estranged wife Annie Heidaker in Old Sweet Home, then killed himself after a feud over separation and finances. Annie Heidaker survived with injuries. Marcus Heidaker witnessed the attack and car was used to move the vehicle. Funeral services for Heidaker were held at Sweet Home. Four children survive.

Joseph Lahodny aged 68 years eight months and twenty four days died August 24 after four months of illness. Funeral from Boundary Line home Friday at 9 am with Requiem High Mass at local church celebrated by Monsignor Netardus. Survived by wife six children and 17 grandchildren, plus siblings in the old country. Burial at Shiner Catholic Cemetery.

Cotton loans on 1938 crop announced by Agriculture
The Department of Agriculture will issue loans on 1938 cotton at bases from 8.30 cents per pound for 7 8 middling to 5.30 to 10.75 cents overall. The program aims to help farmers hold crops until supplies shrink and prices rise, with Uncle Sam covering losses if prices drop and borrowers paying back if prices rise. Southern leaders sought about 12 cents per pound, but exports would suffer if rates were above current levels.

Shiner Plans $180000 Improvement Bond With Grant Match
The Business Men's Club met at the Royal Cafe as Mayor Richter announced city plans for street paving water hydrants and a new water tower. A $100000 bond issue would be sought with an $80000 federal grant to fund seven miles of paving and firefighting upgrades while keeping taxes and utility rates steady. If approved the city expects to hire local labor and complete the project within a 30 year span amortized by the municipal plant revenues.

Young Gonzales boy killed in truck accident
Houston Halmark age 14 son of Mr and Mrs Dewey Halmark of Gonzales was killed Monday when a truck loaded with Seattle ran over him on his grandfather’s ranch. He was riding on the truck when he fell under the wheels. Funeral held Tuesday afternoon at Gonzales. Survived by parents a sister and grandparents.
