Firefighters quickly controlled blazes at Rug Rogge gin and Miller gin. One bale of cotton burned at Rug Rogge and gin stands suffered light damage. Miller gin fire damaged two bales of cotton before containment.
A large crowd of farmers who lost cotton in the compress fire last week gathered at the opera house last Monday to settle their losses. The Compress proposed to reimburse all destroyed cotton, a plan accepted by some losers and declined by others, leaving the matter unresolved.
Miss Stumbles of Southern California arrived in Hallettsville to assume duties as Public Health Nurse for Lavaca County. The Lavaca County Red Cross chapter appeals for community support to ensure the program's success in the fourth Sempsar lly 1920 notice.
Cuero Texas October 3 Farmers estimate about 65 percent of the cotton crop gathered and around 50 percent sold The holding movement is pronounced with many farmers arranging to carry their cotton over until next spring.
Range Texas Oct 3 Manuel Garcia working at Strieber Brothers gin Friday morning had his left arm caught in the round base press. The injury was severe with the arm cut off nearly to the elbow.
Miss Stella Morgenroth and Mr O H Schmidt wed at 8:30 Wednesday night with only family present. Rev H C Beitmann officiated. Bride and groom plan a bridal trip to New Orleans and will reside in Houston after returning. The Gazette wishes them happiness.
A huge attendance gathered at Bluecher Park for a Catholic bazaar and dinner last Sunday. A bale of cotton was raffled and won by Henry Messer. Five to six bales, along with horses and mules, were donated and sold at auction. The evening closed with a grand ball selling 337 dance tickets. Proceeds boosted the church fund.
A chicken dinner will be served on Saturday October 16 at the Matula Building opposite the Depot. The event benefits the Cemetery fund with proceeds from the meal.
