Carload of Booze Detained Near Cotton Mills

Sheriff arrest near the cotton mills as a driver with an Oakland car yields a stock of corn whiskey. Fourteen bottles, one jug, and three gallon jars found. The detainee, Ed Glomb of Shiner, appeared before Squire Potts for examining trial and posted a $500 bond.

Twentieth Century Club Meeting Led by Mrs Striebeck

The Twentieth Century Club met at Mrs H H Striebeck’s home with sixteen members present. Mrs C C Amsler chaired the business session and volunteers were asked to supervise club rest room cleanliness in October. The program covered Actors and Actresses with H H Hepler leading the opening lesson. In Columbus, a Gonzales county man Roy Jones was found guilty of rape of a white woman and sentenced to death by a jury that deliberated about 20 minutes. The judge has not yet set the execution date.

Compulsory School Attendance Law Enforced This Fall

The compulsory attendance law begins October 83 and runs for 100 school days. All children aged 7 to 14 must attend school. The honor roll will start in October, and Shiser colored school opens Monday, October 3.
