Sheriff arrest near the cotton mills as a driver with an Oakland car yields a stock of corn whiskey. Fourteen bottles, one jug, and three gallon jars found. The detainee, Ed Glomb of Shiner, appeared before Squire Potts for examining trial and posted a $500 bond.
Mr and Mrs Wessels of Houston spent the past week in Shiner visiting Mrs Wessels parents Mr and Mrs L B Richter.
The Shiner Herman Sons marked 31 years with a Sunday event at Bluecher Park. Attendees filled Bluecher Park and 204 tickets were sold for the evening ball.
The Yorktown Fair Boosters arrive in Shiner on Tuesday October 11 at 2 30 p m with a brass band to give a concert lasting about thirty minutes. Be on hand to hear the music as the balmy October Indian Summer days are with us.
A September 29 bridal shower at Mrs. T. S. Harris home celebrated Miss Erna Eschenburg’s forthcoming marriage to Mr. Charles R. Longoria. Hundred guests enjoyed gifts, music by Huebner and Koester, readings, and a unique telegram announcement that Miss Ella Schramm and Hugo Kostner will wed October 18 1921.
The Twentieth Century Club met at Mrs H H Striebeck’s home with sixteen members present. Mrs C C Amsler chaired the business session and volunteers were asked to supervise club rest room cleanliness in October. The program covered Actors and Actresses with H H Hepler leading the opening lesson. Tragedians and Comedians featured Mrs H H Hepler and Mrs C B Welhausen. and Miss Lydia Koester spoke on Famous on the Screen.
The proprietors Kunath and Pagel thank the public for liberal support on opening nights of their new Liberty Theatre. They pledge to show up to date pictures every night, promising not to disappoint and to welcome all patrons.
The United Dr. Martin Luther Church invites attendance for Sunday School at 9 a.m. Services follow at 10 15 a.m. An English language night service is at 7 45 p.m. Pastor W C Wolfsdorf signs the notice inviting participation.
In Columbus, a Gonzales county man Roy Jones was found guilty of rape of a white woman and sentenced to death by a jury that deliberated about 20 minutes. The judge has not yet set the execution date.
The compulsory attendance law begins October 83 and runs for 100 school days. All children aged 7 to 14 must attend school. The honor roll will start in October, and Shiser colored school opens Monday, October 3.
The Shiner Cemetery Society will meet at city hall Friday afternoon October 7. Mrs. Eo Wolters serves as secretary.
Services at Baptist Church in Shiner invite the public to hear Rev R H Seabough of Yoa um preach each Tuesday night in the month at 7 30 oclock.
