Campaign progress shows 55 percent completion with workers urged to finish calls and return cards by Saturday November 17. Organizers emphasize continuing on schedule.

Linda Davis daughter of Mr and Mrs John Davis of Shiner has returned home to recuperate after major ear surgery at St Luke's Hospital Houston last week Thursday.
Robert Schroeder two year old son of Mr and Mrs John Schroeder of Shiner is a patient in the Burn Institute in Galveston. Robby enjoys opening mail and his address is Robert P Schroeder care of Shriners Burn Institute 610 Ave B Ward 3 West Galveston TX 77550.
Tom J Krejet retired farmer of Koerth dies at 79. He had lived on Route 4 Hallettsville and died November 7 1973 in Renger Memorial Hospital Hallettsville. Funeral at Koerth Catholic Church with burial in Koerth Catholic Cemetery. He was one of twelve children born December 21 1893 in Lavaca County to Tomas and Katerina Krejci. Survivors include two sons two daughters two brothers two sisters and many grandchildren. His wife Veronica Peters died January 26 1971.
Weekend slate lists two district football games with kickoff times. St Paul Cardinals host St Joseph Flyers of Victoria at 8 p m on Thursday November 15, and Shiner Comanches travel to Somerville for their last district game at 8 p m Friday November 16. A Shi ner High School Sophomore Class bake sale is set for Saturday November 17 at 8:30 a m in front of the bank with usual goodies available.

Charles A. Tesar of 3822 N Terry Fort Worth died about 11:00 a.m. October 31 1973 in a Fort Worth hospital at age 69 1 27. Funeral services were held November 3 at All Saints Catholic Church with Holy Mass. Burial in Mt Olivet Cemetery Fort Worth. He was a retired biological worker and a member of All Saints KJT Lodge and Knights of Columbus. He was born September 4 1904 in Prachatice Austria now Czechoslovakia and came to America in 1906. He married Frances Dusek October 29 1930 in Shiner. Surviving wife three sons six brothers seven grandchildren and numerous relatives attended by area relatives.
The Shiner High School girls and Shiner Junior High girls will compete in the Temple Junior College Basketball Clinic in Temple on Saturday November 17 1973. Junior high faces Midway Junior High Waco while high school meets Hays Consolidated High School Buda with starting lineup returns.
Louis J. Kubena of Shiner age 75 7 months 19 days died November 3 1973 at Shiner Hospital after three days of illness. Funeral services were held at Shiner Catholic Church with burial in Shiner Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers included grandsons and a nephew. He was born March 14 1898 near Yoakum and married Josephine Balaska in 1919. The family lived in Moulton Hermleigh Kokernot Midway and Shiner. He worked as cemetery caretaker and school bus driver retiring about five years ago after a heart attack. Surviving are his wife two sons and a daughter two brothers a sister five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
A kitchen shower for the Sisters of St Paul High School and St Ludmila's Academy runs Friday November 16 through Sunday November 18. Donations should be brought to the Sisters' kitchen and all parishioners may donate whether or not they are PTC members.
Shiner business houses will close Thursday November 22 for Thanksgiving. Post Office and rural route deliveries suspended. First National Bank also closed. Local groceries feature the same advertised specials as this week's Gazette issue.
The Lavaca County Fall Term grand jury at Hallettsville returned five indictments. Frank Garza forgery and passing. Robert North assault with intent to murder and carrying a prohibited weapon. Glen Paul Marek murder with vehicle. Ralph L. Loving and Bill Ray Mica possession of marijuana. Bailiff was Albert McElroy. District Judge B. B. Schraub presided. prosecutors Houston Munson and Terrell Mullins led the case.
School day on Friday November 16 1973 remains a regular day with buses and cafeteria operating. Dismissal will be at 2 40 PM and the previously scheduled in service day and student holiday are canceled and will be rescheduled in the spring possibly around Easter vacation.
Otto A Fikae aged 52 years 4 months 9 days died Monday November 12 1973 at Shiner Hospital. Rosary held November 13 at Buffington Chapel and at 7 45 p m by KJT. Interment at Shiner Catholic Cemetery with military graveside services.

The Freshman class of St. Paul High School will hold a bake sale in front of Patek's Meat Market downtown on November 17 starting at 9 00 a m. Proceeds will support the Freshman class with cakes kolaches pies candy noodles and more.
The Veterans Administration will dedicate the Audie L. Murphy Veterans Hospital, a 760-bed facility costing 35 million dollars, on Saturday morning November 17. Administrator Donald E. Johnson will give the dedication address as Washington officials and Texas congressmen attend.
