St Ludmila Commencement Evening at St Cyril Church

St Cyril and Methodius Church lit with Nile green and pink festoons hosted St Ludmila Academy’s largest senior class of thirteen. Very Rev L P Netardus spoke in English and Bohemian, awarding diplomas to all seniors from last week’s Gazette, plus reading diplomas for six girls.

Shiner High Commencement Honors 1983 Seniors

Shiner High marked the close of the 1982 83 term on Friday night May 19 with fourteen seniors receiving diplomas. The Julius Schultz band led the processional and offertory while Rev Steinhoff Rev Don E Dulaney gave the literary address. J W Cook of Yoakum presented diplomas and honors as the Martin medals were awarded to Julius Hollman Ed Kram Erna Kram Irene Kasper. Erna Kram had the highest class average and Julius Wolters Hollman was top male student and second overall.

Fire destroys wash house at J C Blohm home

A Tuesday night blaze completely destroyed the wash house behind the J C Blohm residence. With no wind and the nearby dwelling safe, the fire was kept from spreading, but the family laundry and electric washer were a total loss. Firefighters argued any potential origin, with late afternoon pressing possibly leaving an iron on.

Quiet Fehrenkamp Staha Wedding in Hallettsville Church

Lee Fehrenkamp and Selma Staha wed at Sacred Heart Church in Hallettsville with Judge and Mrs Stavinoha as witnesses. After a 6 o'clock ceremony, they traveled to Yoakum then Monterrey for their honeymoon, entering married life after careers at local firms and nursing work in San Antonio.

Correction on diploma ceremony figures and patient update

A report notes that during last Friday's diploma presentation Mr. Cook omitted Julius Hollmann's four year average of 92.7 percent and yearly average of 98 percent. It also states Mrs. Ben Stratman is a patient at the local hospital under T. H. Leslie.

A demonstration last Wednesday at Burjes School drew 35 ladies and five men. Led by Miss Della Pfluger the group canned chicken beans peas beets carrots and strawberries using two pressure cookers and explained different canning methods.

Wilma Hillje Weds Victor Stindt in Shiner TX

The Hillje home hosted a Sunday evening wedding as Wilma Hillje daughter of Mrs. William Hillje wed Victor G. Stindt son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Stindt with Rev. Paul Piepenbrok officiating. Attendants wore pink and pastel gowns amid garden settings, the bride carried Talisman roses, and the couple left for Monterrey in a navy crepe ensemble. The bride, a Shiner High and Texas University alumna, is Phi Mu. The groom, also a Shiner graduate, holds a BBA from A and M College and runs the Gulf Refining Agency in Shiner. An informal reception followed with a wedding cake and floral table decor.

Baccalaureate Services at Shiner High School

The Shiner High School Class of 1933 held baccalaureate services Sunday night in the City Auditorium. Rev. Dulaney led the invocation and a quartet, soloist, violin group, and local speakers contributed musical numbers and an inspirational sermon by Rev. R C Steinhoff. The simple green and white decorations complemented the woodland stage setting and benediction by Rev. Dulaney closed the event.

St Ludmila's Academy Granted Two More Credits

The note from the State Department of Education Austin dated May 17, 1933 confirms St Ludmila's Academy in Shiner receiving two additional credits for Bible and Public Speaking. Acting Chief Supervisor Jeremiah Rhodes endorses credit without material submission, bringing the total to 25 credits and praising the Sisters and students.
