St Ludmila's Academy holds graduation Sunday May 24 at 8 30 p m in Sts Cyril and Methodius Church Rt Rev Mons Netarcus to deliver sermon and confer diplomas.
On Tuesday May 12 National Hospital Day was observed at Dr Wagner's Hospital from 2 to 5 pm. Many friends from here and nearby towns visited the hospital which was in full array of blossoms.
Rev. Rayford Harris and Mrs Harris depart Shiner for Daisetta where he will head the Baptist congregation. Many friends in Shiner express deep regret and offer best wishes for their new field of labor.
Miss Katie Vondra passed away Wednesday morning at 9 30. Funeral services will be held from the family home Friday at 9 30 a m.

Richard Braun 64 years old died suddenly Tuesday May 12 at 8 am. A German-born farmer long resident of Lavaca County, he lived in Shiner and was a member of the Sons of Herman Lodge No 20. Funeral Mass was at Shiner Catholic Church with interment in the Shiner Cemetery. He is survived by wife Veronika and children Julia, Mary, John, brother Otto, and five grandchildren.
Mr and Mrs T L Watson announce a baby girl born May 15 at the local hospital weighing 61 2 pounds. Separately Mrs Roy Domingue of Texas welcomes Joyce Ann born May 16 in Shiner. The mother is Cleo DeHarde, formerly of town.
Congratulations to Miss Edith Wolters daughter of Mr and Mrs Edgar C Wolters who will receive a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy at the University of Texas commencement on June 1 Over one thousand students in seven fields will receive degrees Miss Viola Kolos daughter of Mr and Mrs Joe Kolos of Yoakum will also receive a Bachelor of Arts degree

Hilda Ida Hauschild died May 19 at 1 a m at Valley Baptist Hospital Harlingen after a short heart illness. Services were at Grace Lutheran Church Harlingen with burial at Shiner City Cemetery after a service at United Dr Martin Luther Church. Pallbearers were nephews Edwin Jaehne Weldon Clause Raleigh Cook Elo Hauschild George Turk Jake Turk. Survived by brothers Louis Seguin Henry Shiner John Harlingen Rudolph San Angelo and sisters Mrs Gus Jaehne Mrs Jim Turk Shiner Mrs Walter Klaus Yoakum Mrs Homer Burkett Hattie Hauschild Floresville. She was 47 and lifelong resident except five years away. reverent obituary notes her devotion to family and friends and extends sympathy from Gazette readers.
In a simple ceremony at the Yoakum Catholic rectory on May 9 Rev. H V Hug united Alex E Macha of this city and Miss Lorine Lauer of Yoakum. Witnesses were Laddie Mikes and Gladys Lauer. The couple plans to reside with the groom's mother after the wedding.
Mrs Christina Magdelena Bengsch aged 81 years 11 months 17 days died May 13 1942 at the home of her son Emil near Shiner. Funeral held at Emil Bengsch residence then at Charlottenburg Lutheran church with Rev. Filachmeier officiating. Survived by two sons Emil Willie and several daughters and stepchildren. Interment Charlottenburg cemetery with numerous relatives from San Antonio Caldwell and other towns attending.
Joe E. Kolos, Yoakum air raid warden, arranged a war gases demonstration at Yoakum High School auditorium on Wednesday night May 27 at 8 pm. Army experts from Foster Field Victoria Texas and Lt Geo Nader will present on first aid for victims and gas defense. Admission is free and open to all air raid wardens and civilian defense members from Yoakum and nearby towns.

Mr P R Otto local chairman reports $100 sent last week from Shiner for the Navy Relief Society drive in Lavaca County. Letter from Gerald C Mann commends the community and Texas for meeting and surpassing quotas, noting statewide progress and appreciation from the Texas Citizens Committee. May 8, 1942.

Local San Antonio sport circles mourn Leo Holbrook longtime baseball player who played for the Fat and Forty team and was remembered by peers for his years of participation in city games Both in San Antonio and nearby contests he was a familiar figure among local players and fans.
Leo Holbrook longtime Fort Sam Houston electrician and original Fat and Forty League pitcher died Friday evening after months of illness. A North Loop Road resident, he played alongside Fredy Huntress and Jim Brought among other early players. Funeral Monday at St Peter’s Prince of Apostles Church with interment in St Mary Cemetery. area mourners included Mrs. George Ulrich and Mrs. F J Fietsam.
