Hacienda del Carmen described by former governor's son

A letter describes the Terrazas hacienda 40 miles northeast of Gallego Mexico. It notes a 125,000 peso purchase, a 20,000 peso mansion, a 30 acre park, and 400 peso weekly payroll. Emilio Jurdens reports teaching Spanish English and French to eight pupils, including Don Luis Terrazas's children.

A letter from Mexico dated May 1 describes travel from Chihuahua to Hacienda del Carmen to teach the children of Don Luis Terrazas. Weather and farming notes in Nickel Texas May 8 1902

In Nickel Texas residents report a rainstorm with no damage, crops revived by the shower, corn waist high on some farms, cotton and sorghum prospects similar to last year, dewberries ripening but scarce, fruit yields potentially heavy unless blighted by winds. Attendances at the Dallas reunion noted. local scenes include cattle buyers, visits by Mrs. Geo. Cooper Waelder and Mrs. French Smith Gonzales, and travel by Mr. Johnie Thompson from New Mexico.

Death of Col. C. K. Reeves at home May 6

Col. C. K. Reeves of this place died at his home May 6 at 4 a.m. after a long illness and was buried at Yanham cemetery. Brother Rowland of Flatoma conducted the rites. He left a sorrowing wife and daughter and numerous friends.

Brown and Buchanan Tie The Knot In Karnes County

In Karnes City on Tuesday George Brown of Atascosa County married Maggie Buchanan of Hallettsville. The ceremony was small with close friends and relatives. The bride, daughter of County Clerk John Buchanan, grew up in Hallettsville. Brown, a prominent stockman near Campbellton, owns the University Stock Farm and is well regarded. The couple will reside in Atascosa County and the community sends congratulations.
