Reunion of Welhausen's Battery at LaGrange Texas
The first reunion of Welhausen's Battery occurred yesterday in LaGrange after Captain Welhausen traveled from home to meet former comrades. The unit organized at LaGrange and mustered into service in San Antonio in September 1861 with 120 men, originally armed with six guns. They captured two Union ironclads on the Calcasieu river, suffered about ten casualties, and disbanded in May 1865 returning home disheartened but undefeated.
