Clinton James Janecek born May 1 in Yoakum hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Janecek. Baptism at St. Josephs Church with Rev. Pustka officiating. Bartek baby girl arrives May 2 at local hospital in Moulton weighing 7 pounds 12 ounces.
Shiner High prepares for May 21 graduation with 24 seniors. Iva Nollkamper is valedictorian and Gladys Vincik is salutatorian. The class has 11 boys and 13 girls including officers and reporters.
The regular meeting of the High School P. T. A. will be held Thursday afternoon, May 13, and will be strictly a business session. It also marks the closing meeting of the school term.
The Fish and Game League holds its annual membership meeting at Welhausen Recreation Grounds tonight at 7:00 p m. Everett T. Dawson speaks on wildlife conservation education and moving picture films on wildlife will be shown. Bring folding chairs or a box. adjournment expected at 9 p m.
Doctor William Kraushaar president of Texas Lutheran College will deliver the commencement address May 21. Pastor Edwin J. Oehlke will preach the baccalaureate sermon May 16. Complete programs for baccalaureate and commencement will be published in the Shiner Gazette May 13.
John Krpec aged 89 years and 4 months died at his home on route 2 Yoakum Saturday May 1 at 1 00 p m Funeral services were held at the family residence Monday May 3 at 9 00 a m and at the Sweet Home Catholic Church with a Requiem High Mass Rev G Kuratko officiated Burial was in Sweet Home Cemetery He was born January 1 1859 in Czechoslovakia and came to America as a young man Surviving are four daughters Mrs Ed Baros and Mrs Joe Trobel both of Ganado Mrs Nelson Boyd of Houston and Mrs E V Slanina of Houston three sons Joe of Yoakum Charles of Houston and Louis of Shiner and sixteen grandchildren

Committees from Kolar Staken Post American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars plan a large Independence Day event in Shiner on Sunday July 4. Gazette announcements will update residents on plans to make it the most colorful celebration of its kind.
Vic Michalec, 19, pitching for the Ballinger Cats, threw a six hitter on April 29 and beat Del Rio 7 to 2. He added two base hits, including a seventh inning drive to right that produced the winning runs. His older brother Lad dies is starring for the El Campo Knights in the Guadalupe Valley League.
The regular meeting of Shi ner Chapter No. 242 will be held Tuesday night May 11 at 8 oclock. The gathering is the annual election of officers and full attendance is desired. Members should come prepared to pay dues. Mrs. Oscar Lichey, W. M.
Mrs. Tillie Bludau of Shiner was notified by wire from the Graves Registration Bureau in Fort Worth that the body of her son Pfc. Hubert F. Bludau is en route to the United States for final interment in Shiner. Funeral arrangements will be announced later.
The Rev. Joseph Hegar aged 60 died in Temple Sunday night after a cerebral hemorrhage Friday in Austin. He led congregations in Shiner Smithville and Taylor and held multiple Moravian pastorates.
Mrs G W Blumberg formerly Christa Moeckel died in Seguin early Tuesday after a brief battle with spinal meningitis. A Shiner native, she left a husband and young son as relatives and friends mourn her loss. Funeral services were planned at Seguin Presbyterian Church with burial beside her mother in Seguin Cemetery.
The three act comedy mystery Creeping Shadows by Germaine Haney will be staged Friday at 8 in the Gymnasium Auditorium. Shimer High School seniors directed by Mrs Flora White lead a cast of twenty four including Lanelle Sommerlatte and Alton Tieken with tickets 35 cents for adults and 20 cents for children available from class members or at the door.
The Lavaca County Home Demonstration Clubs sponsor a frozen food demonstration for National Home Demonstration Week. It will be held Thursday May 6 at 2 p.m. at the Shiner Western Auto Associate store. The public is cordially invited.

Daniel Stock and Hugo Pohler Jr. purchase the Hallettsville City Meat Market and take charge this week. The new firm will be named Stock and Pohler. The Shiner youths bring meat handling and stockman experience to Hallettsville amid hometown well wishes.
Paul Joseph Pustka son of Mr and Mrs Mat Pustka of Wied died after birth at local hospital. Funeral services held Thursday at St Marys Church with Father Henry Psencik officiating and burial in St Marys Catholic Cemetery. Flower attendants were Delores Pesek and Elizabeth Mladenka. Survivors include parents six brothers Peter Bernard John Victor Matt Jr and Joseph and three sisters Mollie Marie Ann and Helen Antonia.
Shortly after noon Tuesday infant Deloris Mae Berckenhoff daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank J. Berckenhoff died at two months and 24 days Born February 10 1948 Funeral services were held at Eschenburg Funeral Parlor with interment in Shiner Catholic Cemetery Survivors include the parents a sister Patricia Stella a brother Frank Jr grandfathers Ben Berckenhoff of Shiner and Chas Kurtz of St Anns near Yoakum Casket attendants were Victor Novak Alphons Kurtz Lawrence Matula Victor Caka Flower girls Betty Jo Kurtz and Renny Bujnoch Father Hoffmann officiated at the burial rites.
The beginners in piano presented by instructor Mrs Isabel Thulemeyer on Monday night. A garden scene setting enriched the May recital with piano solos duets trios and quartets plus two piano accordion numbers. Young performers entered in a grand march and were presented by Mrs Thulemeyer. The young ladies wore formal evening dresses and an appreciative audience greeted each number.
Sympathy is extended to Mr. and Mrs. Henry W. Ehler on the death of their infant daughter Susan Marie Ehler. The funeral was read by Rev. A D Klages in Hallettsville. Survivors include the infant’s parents and grandparents Henry Ehler Sr. and Leonard Bonarden Sr.

The Blessed Virgin Mary Society will hold a regular session after the 8 o'clock Mass on Sunday May 9. All members are urged to attend.

Shiner debuts a new Serve Yourself ice station at the corner lot in front of the Shiner Oil Mill. Jim Chotenovsky installed a 10 by 30 foot ice vault with automatic levers and two coin machines for 50 and 25 pound portions. The facility includes a rear loading dock and a Frigidaire cooling system with convenient round the clock service.
Moulton citizens organized a Chamber of Commerce with 36 men signing the register. President Lee J. Sedlmeyer and C. J. Waldrop of the Shiner Chamber assisted, with Dr M. M. Wagner chosen temporary chairman and E A Oehl as temporary secretary.
Alfred C. Filipp, a Moulton businessman, died at Dr Strieder Hospital April 28 after a lingering illness. Funeral was May 1 at St Joseph’s Catholic Church with burial in Moulton Catholic Cemetery. He leaves wife and son Alfred Allen plus three brothers and three sisters.
