Shiner dominates Lavaca County meet, taking first in high school with 1389 points and second in Ward division. Yoakum places second in high school and Park Place of Yoakum wins Ward. William Henry Plageman, a Shiner youth nicknamed Billie, is listed among the University of Texas Smart Students in the State University Daily Texan. He studied two years at Texas Technological College in Lubbock and two years at the University of Texas in Austin, now in his senior year. His medical school acceptance at Tulane University in New Orleans is noted, drawing praise from his mother Mrs Cecile Plageman, his aunt Mrs Ella E Lane, and many friends.

Lavaca County Receives 1937 Agricultural Checks

Lavaca County has received 936 USDA agricultural conservation checks totaling about 34000 dollars. Disbursements will occur in Moulton on March 30 Shiner March 31 Yoakum April 1 Hallettsville April 2 and continue daily until all checks are delivered. Car Crash Near Midway Damages Car and Pickup

A Plymouth was nearly demolished and an unoccupied pickup badly damaged in a hillside crash near the Midway crossing on the Yoakum Highway at about 8 30 Tuesday morning. occupants Mr and Mrs C E Moore and their 7 year old son Clarence of San Diego California Mrs Moore's father August Finkelstein and sister Miss Idella Finkelstein were taken to Shiner Clinic with Mrs Moore injured and the boy an artery severed. They were later moved to the home of Mrs Ed Herder and then to Flatonia home of Mr Finkelstein. The party was en route to Corpus Christi to visit Mrs Moore's sister Mrs Ed Boerner. The car struck the unoccupied pickup owned by H G Hollmann of Shiner.
