City election set for the first Tuesday in April the 5th to elect one Mayor three Alder men and one City Secretary for two years. Polls open 8 AM to 6 PM at City Hall under Manager of election F R Mer genthaler. E Runk Mayor City of Shiner.
The City Cemetery Association announces a regular tea and annual bazaar on Saturday afternoon April 2 in the Verseburger Building. Everyone is invited to attend.
Edgar Pfeil won first in Sub Junior Spelling at Hallettsville on March 19 with a perfect paper and may receive a Winston dictionary and a State University certificate if re grading confirms perfection. Mildred Zander and Emily Novak tied for first in Junior Spelling with one error each, marking the sixth consecutive year Burjes School teams top Inter scholastic League contests.
The finest collection shows newest ladies and misses hats including hair braid hats novelty straws and crochet novelties trimmed with flowers embroidery and ribbon with values from 2.50 to 5.00 A new silk dress shipment priced at 9.95 and 16.50 features all the latest shades and smart styling.
Unprecedented crowds attended the 40 Hours Devotional Service at the Catholic Church, closing Tuesday afternoon. A constant stream of cars moved through the area as Father Netardus was assisted by Reverends Chas Benes A Mathis F Neubert G Kuratko J Kopp and D A Sykaroa.
Dr Frank Kent schedules clinics on April 7 in Moulton April 8 in Hallettsville and April 9 in Shiner. Mrs Wm Macha spent last week in San Antonio.
A past Gazette note recalls a severe ice and snow event in North Texas. March ended with a six inch snow mantle spreading across counties while rain fell for Shi ner’s total above six inches. Monday night brought sleet and hail as mud conditions persisted across the state.
The Pastor Rev T H Crow of Halletttsville will start a series of revival services at the Methodist Church next Monday at 730 PM Two daily services will be held mornings at 10 and evenings at 730 Rev Ratcliff of Cuero will join by Wednesday and assist for the rest of the week The entire community is urged to attend and welcome is extended to all.
The Union Cemetery Association announces Decoration Day on Sunday April 10 at the local cemetery. The program will be presented next week with details to follow.
Local telephone operators joined a first outing of the season Sunday afternoon from four to six at the forks of the creek. Guests included Gus Seims Emil Stach Jr and Frank Stach Jr Mrs Pat Mapes and mother Mrs Ramey Marguerite Llebharsky Hertha Llebharsky Louise Stach Millie Dolossi Geneva Seims Anton Stach Leo Peckens and Victor Ramsey, special cable men from San Antonio.
After a painful illness, the death of Mrs. Mary Coldewey occurred at the family home Tuesday afternoon at 3 o clock. She was nearly 81. The funeral was held yesterday. B E Stratman of Dallas attended. A longer notice will appear next week.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday morning and 7 30 p.m. Sunday evening led by Rev Jos Green pastor. Everyone invited to attend these services.
Kilert Gerdes of San Antonio visited his sister Mrs. E. L. Balusek last weekend, sharing a family gathering in the city.
Notice of Election for four trustees to two year terms in Shiner Independent School District. Election set for Saturday April 2 1927 at City Hall Shiner Texas. Polls open 8 a m to 6 p m with F R Mergenthaler as presiding officer. outgoing trustees listed Arno Wagener C B Stratman Peter Kuhn J R Barrow.
Dr Geo Kopecky and wife moved to Wharton where he had been a resident since last summer. Friends regret the departure from Shiner and Kopecky thanks patients, asks continued support for his successor Dr Herbert Zappe who will open dental parlors at the same location on June 15.
The Shiner production Eyes of Love directed by Mrs. Ella Lane drew a good audience and netted about 65 dollars. Receipts were split on a percentage basis with the P. T. A. share sizable. The performance, praised as one of the best, featured a male quartet and the High School Orchestra receiving generous applause. The P T. A. and viewers thanked the Shiner community for a high class entertainment.
Mrs C L Williams and her sister Mrs Susie Bumgarten are spending the week with their nephew Chase Sandford and his wife of Alice.
