Shiner Public Schools held a science fair during Public School Week in the high school gym on March 9 1967 with 164 entries across grades 1-12 up from 44 last year. Winners listed include First Grade Sherry Lynn Buesing Second Grade Bryan Winn Third Grade Douglas Kaspar Fourth Grade John Winn Fifth Grade Jay Kasper Junior High James Miculka Emil Sembera and others with awards from the Lavaca DeWitt Medical Auxiliary Rotary Club and more.
The Rev Emil Wesselsky is transferred from Our Lady of Grace Parish in San Antonio to St Josephs Parish downtown as administrator effective March 20. He marked his 11th anniversary of ordination March 17 and will speak at the St Paul Junior-Senior Prom March 27. He is to lead the Holy Land pilgrimage departing San Antonio April 13 and returning May 4.
Three candidates appear on the ballot for mayor and two alderman positions. Ben Mareak filed for mayor and Bab Marek’s alderman term ends this year. Bennie Simper filed for alderman to replace Mareak, while James F. Buske seeks re election. The state requires election of mayor and two aldermen with terms expiring this year.
A meeting for men over 21 who wish to participate in the summer softball program will be held Thursday April 6 at 7 30 p m at City Hall. All interested are urged to attend.

Lt Col Emil Alvin Vinklarek 54 of San Antonio died March 25 1967. Funeral services were held March 28 at Roy Akers Funeral Chapels and St Pius Church with military honors at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. He is survived by his wife two daughters and several siblings.
Congress considers creating an Electric Bank to fund growing rural cooperatives. The plan mirrors the Federal Land Banks and would mix private capital with government loans, shifting control to cooperatives once equity builds, while some systems would still receive 2 percent Rural Electrification Administration loans.
Mrs Emil H Krause died March 24 1967 at Frank Wagner Memorial Hospital at 80. She lived in Dreyer and Shiner Texas with her husband Emil Krause passing in 1955. Survived by two sons Herman and Walter. granddaughter Amelia Blair. four sisters and one brother. August Haslbeck, 57, longtime Spoetzl Brewery brewmaster, died after a decade of illness. Funeral with military honors was held March 18 at Buffington Funeral Home and Saints Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Shiner. He served in World War II, studied brewing in Germany, and led Shiner's brewery from 1930 until retirement.
Clyde Otto presented top Shiner FFA awards to Warren Bender, Wayne Koenning, and Johnny Moeller at the Father and Son barbecue on March 21 1967. Warren won 50 dollars for Freshman of Greenhand, Wayne 100 dollars as Star Chapter Farmer of Sophomore class, Johnny 150 dollars as Star Chapter Farmer of Junior class.
Funeral services for Mrs Caesar Hatchett of Shiner were held March 27 1967 at 2 30 p m at New Jerusalem Baptist Church with Rev W G Sampleton officiating. Interment followed at Blue Bonnet Hill Cemetery. Jamison Funeral Home in charge. Survivors include six sons and numerous grandchildren. years of service noted with Lavaca Fayette County Sunday School and B Y P U Institute.

Mrs. Lawrence M. Riha of Route 2 Hallettsville died March 19 1967 at age 73. Funeral services conducted March 21 at Kabena Funeral Home and Ascension of Our Lord Church Moravia with burial in Hallettsville Sacred Heart Cemetery. Survivors include husband two sons daughter four grandchildren and many relatives.
The Shiner Independent School District holds an election Saturday April 1 to elect two trustees. Incumbents Kenneth Otto and Richard Williford seek re election as polls at Shiner City Hall open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Citizens urged to vote and support the candidates.
