Shiner Science Fair Winners Highlight Large Turnout

Shiner Public Schools held a science fair during Public School Week in the high school gym on March 9 1967 with 164 entries across grades 1-12 up from 44 last year. Rev Emil Wesselsky Assigned to San Antonio Parish

The Rev Emil Wesselsky is transferred from Our Lady of Grace Parish in San Antonio to St Josephs Parish downtown as administrator effective March 20. He marked his 11th anniversary of ordination March 17 and will speak at the St Paul Junior-Senior Prom March 27. He is to lead the Holy Land pilgrimage departing San Antonio April 13 and returning May 4.

City Election Set for Tuesday April 4 1967

Three candidates appear on the ballot for mayor and two alderman positions. Ben Mareak filed for mayor and Bab Marek’s alderman term ends this year. Bennie Simper filed for alderman to replace Mareak, while James F. Buske seeks re election. The state requires election of mayor and two aldermen with terms expiring this year.

Men's Softball Meeting Set at City Hall

A meeting for men over 21 who wish to participate in the summer softball program will be held Thursday April 6 at 7 30 p m at City Hall. All interested are urged to attend.

Lt Col Emil Alvin Vinklarek 54 of San Antonio died March 25 1967. Funeral services were held March 28 at Roy Akers Funeral Chapels and St Pius Church with military honors at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. He is survived by his wife two daughters and several siblings.

Funeral Services Held For Retired Shiner Brewmaster

August Haslbeck, 57, longtime Spoetzl Brewery brewmaster, died after a decade of illness. Funeral with military honors was held March 18 at Buffington Funeral Home and Saints Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Shiner. He served in World War II, studied brewing in Germany, and led Shiner's brewery from 1930 until retirement.
