Annual Decoration Day at City Cemetery Sunday April 7

Annual Decoration Day will be observed at City Cemetery on Sunday April 7 with a program to be announced next week. A bazaar and tea held last Saturday drew $100 in receipts. Mrs. Theo Dierksen donated embroidered pillow slips totaling $20, presented to Mayor Runk.

Handsome Brick Veneer Home Planned in Shiner

Mr and Mrs Gus Wolters have let the contract to Alois Kasper for a spacious brick veneer home. The former A J Blohm residence has been torn away and a foundation laid this week. The English style one story house will enhance Shiner, the city beautiful, with more attractive homes.

Everybody's Going To Schulenburg Festival Preview

South Texas hosts a major Schulenburg event on April 3 with Gov Dan Moody Lieut Gov Barry Miller and Sen Gus Russek in attendance. The day features a 300000 Carnation Milk condenser dirt turning, a 1000 dollar bull giveaway, Shrine Band performances and motion picture cameras in action. A nationwide publicity stunt is planned at 11 A M followed by a big parade at 1 PM. All activities are free.

Shiner boy Lewis E. Striebeck and 13 Baylor students were named among 100 national winners in a Gregg Publishing Company typewriting contest. Over 30,000 entries from all states competed. Baylor ranked first among entering schools, with 14 local Texas students recognized. Music aided secretarial training, improving rhythm and typing skill.

Temple Lumber manager Gus Jaroszewski, road master Dell of the B S P and O C Burkett county commissioner, and others are coordinating plans. The railroad will provide the rose bushes and Jaroszewski has ordered 50 dollars worth of shrubs to beautify the plot and enhance Shiner's civic improvements.
