Norbert A. Grona 54 of 447 Burr Road San Antonio died Tuesday March 18 Funeral services were held Thursday at 9 AM from Zizik Kearns Funeral Home with a Requiem Mass at St Peter Prince of the Apostles Catholic Church at 9 30 AM The Rev Norbert B Galle officiated Rosary was recited Wednesday at 730 PM Interment was in St Josephs Society Cemetery Survivors include his widow Gertrude Kerr Grona father Albert Grona children Renee Ann Regina Marie Albert Champs and Norbert A Grona Jr sisters E M Zerr Sr Mrs Grant Moore Sr Mrs Thurman Simmons and brother Edgar P Grona all of San Antonio Those from Shiner attending the last rites included Frank Tasler Sr Frank Tasler Jr Mrs Frank Glomb and Oscar Glomb

Farmers urged to attend a county meeting at the Hallettsville Court House on Friday night March 28 at 8:00 PM regarding growing blackeye peas for Eagle Pass Foods Corp of Port Lavaca. The company offers 70 dollars per ton with labor paid by growers and seed costing 35 cents per pound.

Michalec Brothers Face Off In Texas League Ex meeting

Vic and Jimmie Michalec played for opposing Texas League clubs in a Sunday exhibition. Jimmie started for the Houston Buffs and earned the win. Vic pitched five strong innings for Houston allowing three hits and four strikeouts. Both brothers showed promise in windy, cold conditions. Mrs. E J Merrem celebrated her 87th birthday quietly at home with gifts and flowers.

Minnie W Discher a native Texan and pioneer died at her son Herbert Discher’s home on March 23 at 11 50 AM aged 83 6 27. Funeral at United Dr Martin Luther Church with Rev Edwin J Oehlke officiating burial in Shiner City Cemetery. She was born near Flatonia August 26 1868. Survived by sons Hemond A and Herbert E Discher of Shiner a grandchild and sister Sophie Herms of Houston.

Green School Annexed to Shiner District

The Green school district in Lavaca County petitioned to join Shiner Independent School District. At the February meeting, the County Board of Education annexed Green, so the entire school will move to Shiner when the 1952-1953 term opens in September. The change resulted from Green patrons, not pressure from Shiner officials.

Forty Hours Devotion at Sts Cyril and Methodius Church

Forty Hours Devotion will begin Friday morning March 28 at 8:00 oclock and end Sunday morning March 30 after the 6:30 Mass. Adoration periods run Friday night to Saturday morning 3:00 to 6:00 and 7:30 to 9:00 PM plus Thursday Friday evening devotions at 7:30 PM. See bulletin board at church entrance for times.

Red Cross Appeals for Tornado Relief Funds and Blood

The Red Cross asks for donations to aid tornado victims across Arkansas, Missouri, Tennessee, and Mississippi where over 200 people died and more than 1,000 were injured. They allocated 250,900 dollars and will send doctors, nurses, 224 units of whole blood, and 274 units of plasma to 19 affected counties.

A family style stew supper and game night will be held Monday night at the High School gym. Serving starts at 6 30 PM admission 50 cents. PTA sponsors the event with stew 35 cents cake 10 cents drinks 5 cents. Change of hour to 6 30 to avoid church service conflict.

Charlottenburg School Moves to Shiner District

Charlottenburg patrons transfer the entire school and teacher Mrs John Schot to Shiner schools by bus on March 24 1952. Six fourth graders are split into two sections with 18 pupils each under Mrs Schot and Mrs Riske. Superintendent Neal B Fox says staff are glad to welcome the students and ensure a smooth year ahead.
