After a Hallettsville Chamber of Commerce meeting with James Buske and Glade Welhausen the group voted to support forming a county wide Soil Conservation District. Farmers and business leaders in the Shiner area show strong interest in organizing their own district.
One and a half inches of rain fell Tuesday lifting creeks above banks for the first time in months. The dry season troubled farmers stockmen and gardeners but the timely rain ends the delay in planting and is valued at about a million dollars to the community.
Funeral services for Elijah Warren age 86 were held Wednesday at 3 p m in Schulenburg. He died Tuesday afternoon at Schultz Hospital. Interment was at Anders Chapel Cemetery. He was born July 24 1861 in Linden County Tennessee and moved to Lavaca County at 14. He leaves seven children, thirteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
Funeral services for Wm. Nollkamper 76 of Flatonia were conducted at Smith Funeral Home with Rev. Walter Froehner, burial in Flatonia City Cemetery. A retired businessman, he died after a two year illness. Born February 2 1871 Cedar he married Annie Schwake March 2 1900 in O Quinn. Survivors include his widow three brothers a sister and many relatives from Shiner and vicinity.
Notice from Mayor Ad Richter of Shiner Lavaca County Texas sets the April 1 1947 election with polls 8 am to 6 pm at the new city hall. Voters elect one mayor one city secretary and three aldermen for two years. Presiding judge F R Mergenthaler to oversee. Candidates must file 15 days prior. City Secretary J M Canon attests.
Mrs. Gus Seim Mrs. Hilda Stach and Miss Lillian Fehrenkamp visit their uncle Charlie Raabe who is seriously ill in a LaGrange hospital.
The club's regular meeting focused on civic improvements and approved installing a drinking fountain in Welhausen Park, aiming to provide a convenient amenity for the community.
Frank Wackar 81 of Yoakum died after a lengthy illness in a Yoakum hospital. Survivors include his wife Frances and children Emil J. Dallas Henry Yoakum Olga Wagner Lin ton Fanny Colle Millie Blaner. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 3 PM from Beck Funeral Home in Yoakum.
Miss DorothyMae Nichols daughter of Houston residents and Douglas Jules Runk son of Mrs Hans Runk were united in marriage at the groom’s mother home. The ceremony was conducted by Rev L D Clepper. The groom serves in the Medical Corps WW II and works for Boulev ard Funeral Home Houston. After a wedding dinner the couple planned a trip and will reside at 134 Brace Houston.
Mrs. Adelia Gehrels and Mrs Willie Draeger, with Mr. and Mrs. E. G. Gehrels, met in San Antonio Monday. Mrs. E. G. Gehrels stayed for a longer visit with her mother, Mrs. T. M. Letbetter.
Walter P Hoerig died March 14 after years of illness. Funeral services were conducted at Eschenburg Funeral Parlor and United Dr. Martin Luther Church with Rev. Edwin Oehlke. Interment was in Shiner City Cemetery. He was born in 1878 in Liebzig Germany and had lived in Shiner since 1902. He married Bertha Zacharias in 1902. they had nine children and fourteen grandchildren. Casket attendants included Alfred Baumann and Walord Hoerig. Hymns were sung at the church and graveside. Sympathies to the family.
The Gazette issues a final warning to delinquent subscribers. Those notified will be dropped from the list next week due to high newsprint costs and no rate increases.
Mrs. Rosa Schwarting and son Herman and Mrs. Chas Louis of Houston visited Mrs. Frank Oldrich and family Sunday. Mrs. Arthur Hutchinson and children of San Antonio visited Mr. and Mrs. Frank Janak and other relatives Sunday.
Miss Edna Aschenbeck daughter of Mr and Mrs John Aschenbeck married Wilbert Fred Werner son of Mr and Mrs Herman Werner Sunday at 8 30 am in United Dr Martin Luther Church with Rev Edwin Oehlke officiating. Music by Mrs V G Stindt. The bride wore aqua blue wool with brown accessories. Attendants were Elton Aschenbeck and Arnold Riske. After a dinner at the bride’s home the couple left for Houston to start their new life together. May they have happiness and prosperity.
The office of temporary controls announced that spare stamp No 11 will become valid April 1 for 10 pounds of sugar. The current stamp No 53 for five pounds ends March 31. Stamp No 11 remains valid through September 30 with a second 10 pound stamp to be validated July 1 if sugar imports meet expectations.
The Future Homemakers of America held a Mother-Daughter banquet in the gym last week with Irish decor. Irma Karnau led with a welcome, Miss Mabel Merrem spoke on future homemakers, and the event included performances by Aurelia Baca and a vocal trio. Guests included the Board of Education, faculty, and press.
Those receiving baptismal rites at the Baptist Church Sunday night were Mr. and Mrs. Joe Macha from Cuero, Frank Chandler and Freddie Cook. Mr. and Mrs. Chas Krupala, Mrs. Anton Novak and son Victor spent Sunday in San Antonio with Mr. and Mrs. Fred Krupala.
Funeral services were held for Adolph Breitkreutz at his family home on Thursday March 13. He died Wednesday at 3 a m after 75 years 10 months 12 days. Survived by wife Johanna Hinrichs and three children Walter Hilda Edgar, plus four grandchildren. Burial in Shiner City with pallbearers named. member of O D H S and Charlottenburg school trustee. Relatives and friends express deep sympathy.
The Shiner Independent School District urges residents to report names of children aged six by September 1 1947 and those under 18 after that date as well as newcomers since February 1946. This helps maximize state funding for the district.

Mr and Mrs Fred Breithaupt Sr visited their new grandson at Burns Hospital Cuero last week. The Breit haupt family adds a fifth grandson and a granddaughter with the newborn. Other visitors included Marvin Lee and Roger Curtis Breithaupt and Mrs Lillie Robinson staying with her parents.
The Shiner F F A Chapter hosts its annual stock show on Saturday March 22 on the vacant lot beside the Svatek produce house. Beef calves hogs sheep capons and layers compete with judging by Mr Hedgpeth of Yoakum starting at ten and a two o'clock auction. The event is sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce with prize money. Everyone is invited.
Mrs Marie Anna Vavricka of Sweet Home died at her residence March 10 at age 83 years 7 months 9 days. Funeral held March 13 at 9:45 a.m. from the family home with a 10:30 a.m. Requiem Mass at Sweet Home Catholic Church. Interment in Sweet Home Cemetery. Born in Czechoslovakia she came to the U S 63 years ago and was married to George Vavricka who died Feb 2 1918. Survived by six children two daughters and three sons, one sister, twenty grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.

The Shiner Independent School District votes to hold an election on April 5 1947 at the New City Hall Shiner to elect three school trustees. F R Mergenthaler is appointed to conduct the election under Texas general election laws. W G Stindt president. H G Hollmann secretary.
Cadet Donald Kasper returned to campus as a homecomer from A and M College this weekend, receiving warm greetings on the occasion.
