The Shiner High School hosted its inaugural Blue Bonnet Tennis Tournament on March 6 indoors due to rain. Cuero won girls and boys singles while Shiner claimed boys and girls doubles. Lena Thieme of Cuero and Iva Nelkamper of Shiner starred with notable performances.

Yoakum bowlers beat Shiner 74 to 0 after leading early games at the Tex Tan Club. Spectators watched a hard fought contest as Yoakum cemented the win with strong final score and a second defeat for Shiner in the series.

Mrs. Frank Rosie Chovanetz aged 80 years died at her Hallettsville area home Saturday night March 8. Funeral from her home Monday at 9:30 with Solemn Requiem High Mass at Sacred Heart Hallettsville. Survivors include a daughter Agnes Hajek and sons Edward, John, Charles. Burial in Hallettsville Catholic Cemetery with grandsons as casket bearers.

Chamber Plans New Playground Gear for Welhausen Park

The Welhausen Park project, approved unanimously by the Chamber of Commerce and local directors, will provide about 1000 dollars in equipment destined for the City of Shiner. The city will install maintain and later transfer to the colored school after refurbishing current equipment. Delivery may be delayed, but the setup includes senior and junior units for all children.

Funeral services for Gustave Adolph Breitkreutz are set for 2 30 p m today from the family home then to Lutheran Church with burial in Shiner City Cemetery He leaves his wife a daughter Miss Hilda and two sons Walter of Shiner and Edgar of Cuero He was 75 years 10 months 12 days old and died at 3 o clock Wednesday morning A full obituary will appear next week.

Fire prevention talk at Shiner by state instructor

Chief Frank Williams, Field Instructor from the State Firemen's Training School, led a School of Instruction in Shiner on Monday night March 10. About 25 visitors attended from the Hallettsville and Moulton Fire Departments. He urged daily year round fire prevention to help cut fire insurance costs on properties.
