O H Deutsch announces a millinery opening on Monday March 23 and a chicken and egg buying offer. The ad promises 80 cents per fryers and seven cents for hens, urging customers to bring eggs and noting they pay the highest spot cash prices.
Louie Buesing, manager of a Yoakum gambling house, paid 500 with J. W. Ray as surety to await grand jury on running a gambling concern. Bail secured. case pending further action at Balletsville? Noted as tied to Shiner and Yoakum operations.
District Court in Kilgore Texas convened the grand jury with Judge Kennon arriving at noon. The panel, led by foreman W Atkinson, will hear charges spanning the penal state. Also announced: new hats for ladies and children arrive Monday at O H Deutsch’s millinery. A basketball game between Moulfoy and Shiner is set for Saturday at the school grounds.
Saturday night at the opera house the school children gathered for their annual masked ball. The Shiner orchestra provided dance music as clowns performed tricks and little fairies danced. children moved about the hall with a pink light glowing from a large clam shell, adding a festive mood to the event.
The hall filled with spectators as five masked acts entertained both children and adults. After dancing for an hour the event raised $20.00 net from $40.00 gross, funds to be donated to the Shiner school.
In Texas, Shep Foley and Rome Foley face burglary charges linked to Yoakum cases. A grand jury will hear a fresh round of investigations next Monday. An earlier suspect released for Ty Boothe’s robbery. Louis Buesing detained on family-housing charges. Local Knights and Pitman Sisters addressed community, with musical selections and a communal meal. District court sits with a light docket unless grand jury actions add cases.
One of the year’s most pleasant social functions was the joint Knights of Pythias and Pythian Sisters banquet in Shiner last Friday. The event featured both an arranged program and a substantial banquet. Nearly one hundred persons were present for the occasion.
