Stills Found Hidden Beneath Boiler in Town Cleanup

While cleaning a gin site Friday evening, Mr. H C Miller and workers uncovered two five gallon stills beneath a boiler in a secluded area. Adulph Semvers alerted Miller, who summoned his son and City Marshal Canon. The stills were seized and stored in the city residence awaiting orders from authorities. The owner likely hid them after recent raids, and Miller was later joked about the episode as if it were an April Fool’s prank.

Miss Leona Boehl Buried In Weimar After Loss Of Daughter

The many friends of Mr and Mrs Fred Boehl mourn their 16 year old daughter buried at Weimar last Friday afternoon. Rev Pfenninger led services before the gray casket was borne by pallbearers Alfred Huebner Fred Cook Emil Meyer Willie Roeder George Sander. About fifteen cars accompanied the body to Weimar where Piepenbrook conducted the burial service. Flowers were numerous and beautiful. The Gazette extends sympathy.

Henkhaus Seeks Re election Public Weigher Lavac County

The Lavac county notice endorses O. C. Henkhaus for Public Weigher of Precinct No 3 stating he has held the office for years and served farmers late into the night during rush cotton seasons. He announces subject to the Democratic primaries in July and asks voters for support.

Violin Pupils Shine In School Recital At High School

Miss Stella Wolters staged a piano violin recital at the High School Auditorium last Saturday night featuring a student orchestra two solos a violin duet and a trio. Six young performers from the primary department led by Miss Mergenthaler performed a Japanese drill while Miss Melba Welhausen from Yoakum offered two numbers. Ladies Aid Meeting at M E Church Hosts and Minutes

Mrs A J Blohm hosted the Aid Society of the M E Church on February 27. The secretary read the minutes from January 1 1903 noting three charter members present. An out of town guest, Mrs Williams of Brownsville, attended and a neat sum was realized. The next meeting will be with Mrs J C Blohm.

County Court Opens March Term Under Judge Stavinoha

Judge C. L. Stavinoha convened county court Monday at 9 30 a m for the March term. Nine jurors reported for service and the docket was called. Dorrie Payne pleaded guilty to theft and was fined 15 and one day in jail. Joe Sitka pleaded not guilty to obstructing a highway and the case went to trial with a six juror panel. the jury was still out at press time.

XX Century Club Meets With Lesson On Early Painting

Mrs. Joe High opened her home for XX Century Club with seventeen members present and guest Mrs. Green. The book committee proposed library purchases, later discharged. Mesdames Muecke and Schramm volunteered for the rest room. The session covered Early Painting and Its Development with papers by Mrs. C. C. Amsler and Mrs. E. G. Buske, noting prehistoric color use and the Renaissance. The club plans to meet March 20 with Mrs. Elo Wolters.
