February saw extensive patrols and investigations across multiple towns. Deputies handled 19 prisoners, with $958.70 in county fines and fees collected.
The Shiner Public Schools start the first phase of its career program in the gym Monday March 15 at 9:00 a.m. The day features talks by Dr. Pat Norwood, Jack Lindsey, James Buske, J. Jack Cloutier, and Mrs. Otto Kosler on college, agricultural job opportunities, local resources, art, and LVN opportunities. Parents of juniors and seniors are invited, with St. Paul’s High School juniors and seniors as guests.
The FHA at Shiner High School hosts a Hobo Day fundraiser where girls will clean homes in the neighborhood to raise money for a Mother-Daughter Banquet. Interested residents are urged to call LY 4-3857 LY 4-2383 LY 4-3545.
Hospital visiting times are 10 00 to 11 00 am 2 00 to 4 00 pm and 7 00 to 8 30 pm. This week’s admitted patients include Frank Meyer Linda Moreno John Zbranek Herman Schreiber Hollmann Kram Bednar Siegel Sedilmeyer Ehlers Boedeker Shiner Hoepfl Ruth Alexander Emil Tomek Yoakum Nellie Kelly Hallettsville and others. Dismissed patients include Zidek Schaefer Behlen Siegel Hubner Lenz Schramm Hubner Jenkins Frank Meyer Grossman Kurtz Ladewig Pekar and baby girl.
Adolph A Nesrsta died at home southwest of Moulton on February 26 1965 at age 69 1 28. A WWI veteran and lifelong farmer he is survived by wife Jaromila four children and several grandchildren. Funeral services were March 1 at Smith Funeral Home and St Josephs Church with interment in Moulton Catholic Cemetery under Moulton American Legion and VFW auspices. Rosary was February 28. Pallbearers included local Legion and VFW members.
Mrs. Robert Maeker nee Julia Kolackova died January 23 1965 in Slaton Memorial Hospital. Funeral Mass at Slaton Catholic Church followed by burial in Slaton City Cemetery. Born May 8 1874 in Vienna she came to America in 1883. She lived in Shiner Moulton Dreyer Wilson and Posey before retiring near Slaton. Survived by four sons and four daughters and many grandchildren.
Hal letsville mayor M I Bozka and two men from Hallettsville were injured in a two car collision near Richmond. Bozka showed improvement Monday after a bad day Saturday and a serious condition. Kubena and Jacobs also suffered injuries and were due for hospital release in Rosenberg. The family conveyed thanks for prayers and support.
The Texas League of Vocational Nurses will meet at Wagner Clinic Shiner on Thursday March 11 at 8 pm. KJZT KJT and D O groups plan a 1:30 pm quarterly meeting and 8 am Sunday corporate communion. register for a door prize. St Paul Cardinal players earned spots on the all district teams. Dennis Muelker was named to the first team and Al Ondru sek was chosen on the second team.
Two Comanches from Shiner High School, Jim Vaclavik and Jackie Cunningham, were selected for the 25-A All-District second team by district coaches at a recent meeting in Shiner.
Don J. Green of NASA's Manned Spacecraft Center will speak at the Yoakum Chamber of Commerce Banquet on Thursday March 11 at 7 30 p m in St Joseph's Gym. He will also address Yoakum High School at 2 p m. Tickets cost 150 and are available at the chamber office and two banks.
A sequence of birth notices from Shiner Yoakum and surrounding towns lists new babies born February and March. Names include Adolph Pekar Gratcian Chilek Lana Lee Stach Kallus Moulton and Manning families with hospital and weight details provided and grandparent lines noted.
Election for three Shiner Independent School District trustees will be held Saturday April 3 1965 at City Hall. Incumbents Felix Jurica J Jack Cloutier and Elmer Schneider face non filing by Jurica and Schneider with ballots listing Cloutier Brian H Helweg and Oscar W Buesing. Cynthia Krejci named Sweetheart of Shiner High School Band after February 18 concert. she is senior band member former drum major twirler and active in National Honor Society F H A basketball and yearbook staff.
Mr and Mrs Richard P Schleinschok welcome a son born Thursday February 11 1965 at Holmes Memorial Hospital Gonzales weighing six pounds thirteen ounces. Grandparents are Mr and Mrs Jim Fikac of Shiner and Mrs Mary Kocian of Moulton. He has four sisters and grandmother Mrs Mary Schleinschok of Gonzales.
Elaborate preparations mark the Womanless Wedding to be held in the Shiner High School Gym on Saturday March 13 with a pancake supper 6 to 7 30 p m and a 30 pm ceremony Admission is 50 cents for adults and 25 cents for children under 12 Tickets are sold at the First National Bank Quality Pharmacy and Post Cafe The event features a long list of wedding party members and a dress rehearsal planned for Thursday March 11 at 7 30 pm
South and central Texas universities and high schools can now enroll young women in the Marine Enlistment Program. Major E. E. Collins announces the plan from San Antonio, noting a 120 day delay before recruit training. Boot camp is at Parris Island and lasts nine weeks with built in financial benefits.
At a Weimar meeting of two veterans groups it was decided not to sponsor a Weimar Vets team in the South Central Texas Amateur League this summer. SCTAL president Al Kasparek hopes another group fields a Weimar entry as eight nearby towns already commit teams.
Leo F. Hybner of Shiner was moved from the local hospital to the VA Center in Temple Texas last Friday. He is resting comfortably and cheer cards may be sent to Ward 17 Temple VA Center Temple Texas.
Internal Revenue Service official Howard G. Hall of Victoria Texas cites four errors: illegible printing or writing, missing signatures, failing to report all income, and arithmetic mistakes. He notes arithmetic errors lead to overpayments or incorrect tax, unreported bank interest and Series E bond interest, and dependency errors with working wives. He urges joint returns with both spouses signing to avoid penalties and directs taxpayers to IRS help.
Teachers and administrators from fourteen Gulf Coast counties will attend the TSTA District XII convention at Victoria High School Auditorium Friday March 12. Willard E. Goslin will deliver the principal address and W R Carmichael will speak on the 94 000 member organization. Delegates total 136 with 3417 teachers represented. district includes Aransas Bee Calhoun Colorado De Witt Fayette Fort Bend Goliad Jackson Lavaca Matagorda Refugio Victoria and Wharton.
