The County Scholastic Meet will be held here on the 17th and 18th with finals in volleyball tennis declamations and track across Friday and Saturday. A county school fair accompanies the event inviting all schools to exhibit with exhibits due by Wednesday. A Lavaca County Teachers Association meeting is set for 9 am Saturday March 18th upon the chairman's call.
Travis County grand jury returned murder indictments against Otto G. Nami and Mrs. John K. Ross. They were released on $7,000 bond each. The case stems from the death of John K. Ross who was shot at his home in South Austin. Nimi is a Cuero freshman at the University.
Yoakum Texas March 5 A V Wade new owner of Best Theatre announces a full remodel completion and imminent reopening for performances. The project includes updated seating lighting and acoustics restoring the venue as a central local entertainment spot.
Lindale High School defeated El Paso High 27 to 15 to claim the Inter scholastic League loving cup as state basketball champions. The Huskies pressed ahead in the final period after a steady first half, and the tournament closed with an all state first and second team selection plus the best all round sportsman honors.

The Lavaca county interscholastic league meet is postponed to new dates March 17 and 18 at Seiner, shifting from the previously announced March 10 and 11. Teams, venues, and schedules will follow for the Friday and Saturday event.
Dr. Thomas J. Hill has taken over as postmaster of Yoakum succeeding T. P. Woodward who held the office for over eight years in the city on March 5.
A notice states the Eastern Star meeting will be held next Tuesday March 14 with all members asked to come prepared to pay dues. It also notes March 1 Amarillo recorded four degrees below zero amid heavy snowfall and very low temperatures across Texas, with Shiner reporting twenty degrees above zero.
Washington's Birthday entertainment by Shiner High School teachers and pupils drew a large crowd Feb 22 at Bluecher Park. Credit goes to faculty for polished drills, with standout flag drill by Miss Mergenthaler’s little girls and well-crafted colonial costumes.
A great many eggs were marketed in Shiner the past week and as a consequence the price has dropped to 15 cts.
The funeral for Dr. Sam F. Nave age 64 who died in San Antonio was held in Kenedy Texas conducted by the Masonic fraternity with religious services by Rev Theopilus Lee. Nave a longtime Southwest Texas practitioner resided in Kenedy for 13 years and previously in Shiner born in Colorado County. He is survived by his widow and four children Gordon F Sam Nave Mrs R J Carson and Miss Elizabeth Nave.
The Rocky Valley correspondent reports a volatile winter with a February cold snap that damaged corn and gardens, prompting replanting. Sickness is widespread as residents battle colds, Willie Meier visits Flatonia, and plans for a new bridge over Rocky Creek are announced.
John Meyer a Pullman porter, mulatto, on the Southern Pacific westbound train, pleaded guilty to assault against a white woman and her child. Judge J. C. Romberg ordered two years in county jail and a $100 fine after the case opened the county court criminal docket this morning in Gonzales.
Lavaca county schools will display constructive work at the County Interscholastic Meet March 17-18 in the Shiner High School building. The fair aims to represent all county schools with interesting, instructional exhibits for pupils, parents, and teachers.
Word from Shiner last Monday reports a man named Frank Mueck shot and killed Frank Blaska near Moulton. Mueck, said to be operating an illicit still, was placed under arrest the same day.
