The Shiner Independent School District will hold an election on April 5, 1975 to fill two expiring school board terms. Candidates must file written applications with the superintendent by March 5, 1975. Incumbents Henry J. Fietsam and Daniel Harabis will vacate their seats.
The World Day of Prayer celebration will be held at the United Dr. Martin Luther Church on Friday March 7 at 7 30 p m in the Social Hall. Sponsored by the Lutheran Church Women all women in the community are invited. Informal prayer groups follow opening devotions and the adult Black community choir will sing. Men are also invited to attend with a group for them available. The event aims to deepen fellowship and understanding among people.
The Shiner Clippers hold their season opening practice on Sunday March 9 at Clipper Field at 3 00 p m. Local players and those from the 1974 Clippers or other area ball players are invited to try out as several positions need filling for the 1975 team. Manager Robert Fikac says the club aims to field mostly local players and uphold Shiner’s baseball tradition.
A Social Security representative from Victoria Texas will be at Shiner City Hall at 9 am on Monday March 10 1975 to help residents file retirement survivor disability or medicare claims and answer questions about social security and supplemental security income programs. Texas paid a record 2662689000 in social security cash benefits in 1974 up 320690000 from 1973 with retiree and survivor payments totaling 1997 4120000 and 712940000 respectively. automatic increases are anticipated June 1975.
Fred F. Chilek aged 90 died February 27 1975 in Yoakum Texas. Funeral Mass March 1 at St Josephs Yoakum with Rev Emil Winklarek celebrant and burial at St Ann’s Cemetery Hochheim. Survived by son John J Chilek daughters Otelia Mudd Agnes Matocha 17 grandchildren two great grandchildren. Also notes prior family deaths and a correction to pallbearer Ben Marcak.
The body of 32 year old Anton G Darilek was found with a bullet wound in the head at his Houston residence on February 24 1974. Investigators pursued the death as a possible homicide while funeral arrangements were handled by Kubena Funeral Home. Survivors include his wife Margaret Laura Ann and parents Anton and Viola Darilek.

Mrs Otto Sander of Shiner died at 3 00 p.m. Friday February 28 1975 at Shiner Hospital at age 77 years 7 months 8 days. Funeral services were held at United Dr Martin Luther Church with Rev Clifford C Grosenbacher officiating. Burial followed in Shiner City Cemetery in a service marked by hymns and a large family pallbearers group.
Hochheim Prairie Farm Mutual announces its spring meeting to be held at 1 p.m. Saturday March 8 at the Moravia Community Hall. Members will elect two grand directors and discuss amendments to the 83rd annual convention set for April 21 and 22.
Shiner Baptist Church conducts a Week of Prayer for Home Missions with Rev. Cruz Casarez speaking at 7 30 tonight. Casarez, pastor in Stockdale since 1971, is a Texas pastor and Mexican Baptist Bible Institute student who, with his wife Marcella and their eight children, will lead music and join the Wednesday service. Prayer meetings and a April revival series are scheduled at local homes and in church.
Mrs Guy McKay will enter the hospital in Houston on Thursday and is set for major surgery on Friday March 7. Mail addresses listed for Mrs Rose Lee McKay and Daniel Nevada in Houston. Mrs Joe A Michna of Shiner fractured her hip February 11 1975 and is convalescing in Stevens Nursing Home Yoakum after 18 days in Shiner Hospital.
Lavaca County farmers will be surveyed about expenditures for goods and services in crop and livestock production. Charles E. Caudill notes the study helps farm program planners and industry groups. The survey begins in early March with confidentiality guaranteed for all individual data.
The Shiner High School Band invites the community to a Band Dinner at the American Legion Dining Hall on Sunday March 16 1975. Barbecued chicken with trimmings served 1130 am to 1 pm. Prices 1.75 with 4 pieces and 2.25 for 8 pieces or a whole chicken 2.50. Proceeds support the band. Tickets available from band students. Deadline March 13 1975.
The monthly event sponsored by Shiner Baptist Church will be Friday March 7 at 7 p.m. Youth meet at the church and play volleyball with Hallettsville. The program ends with refreshments around 8 30 p.m. Future participants are welcome.
The Ladies Aid of United Dr. Martin Luther Church in Shiner hosted a birthday party on Monday January 13 1975. Honorees seated left to right included Peter Vrazel Emma Kloesel Frances Kasparek Emilie Baros and Mary Slovacek with others standing. Olga Smothers TLH Auxiliary President welcomed guests and introduced honorees. A cake donated by Edward and Mrs Kloesel of Yoakum was cut and the group sang Happy Birthday. A skit Re living Memories From an Old Album was presented and lunch of birthday cake and pimiento cheese sandwiches followed. The next party will be hosted by the KJZT Society of Shiner with date to be announced.
The Old Timers Baseball Association of South Texas held a meeting at Oakridge Smokehouse in Hallettsville with officer elections for 1975 76. New president M C Possum Shelby Edna vice president Otto Maverland Georgetown secretary treasurer Fred Scheske Gonzales Hall of Fame chairman Bill Midkiff Gonzales.
Shiner Clipper Club invites former and new members for the 1975 season starting March 10. Members enjoy half price admission to all games and the Shiner Clipper Tournament, with a new $10 cap option and renewals at $7.50. The club hosts a season ending barbecue and outlines member costs for men and women.
