Shiner ISD Sets April 5 1975 Trustee Election

The Shiner Independent School District will hold an election on April 5, 1975 to fill two expiring school board terms. Candidates must file written applications with the superintendent by March 5, 1975. Incumbents Henry J. Fietsam and Daniel Harabis will vacate their seats.

World Prayer Day at Lutheran Church Friday

The World Day of Prayer celebration will be held at the United Dr. Martin Luther Church on Friday March 7 at 7 30 p m in the Social Hall. Sponsored by the Lutheran Church Women all women in the community are invited. Informal prayer groups follow opening devotions and the adult Black community choir will sing. Men are also invited to attend with a group for them available. The event aims to deepen fellowship and understanding among people.

Clippers Schedule First Practice

The Shiner Clippers hold their season opening practice on Sunday March 9 at Clipper Field at 3 00 p m. Local players and those from the 1974 Clippers or other area ball players are invited to try out as several positions need filling for the 1975 team. Manager Robert Fikac says the club aims to field mostly local players and uphold Shiner’s baseball tradition.

Social Security Office Visit Planned in Shiner

A Social Security representative from Victoria Texas will be at Shiner City Hall at 9 am on Monday March 10 1975 to help residents file retirement survivor disability or medicare claims and answer questions about social security and supplemental security income programs. Texas paid a record 2662689000 in social security cash benefits in 1974 up 320690000 from 1973 with retiree and survivor payments totaling 1997 4120000 and 712940000 respectively. automatic increases are anticipated June 1975.

Funeral Services Held Saturday For Fred J. Chilek

Fred F. Chilek aged 90 died February 27 1975 in Yoakum Texas. Funeral Mass March 1 at St Josephs Yoakum with Rev Emil Winklarek celebrant and burial at St Ann’s Cemetery Hochheim. Gun Shot Victim Anton Darilek Found Dead in Houston Home

The body of 32 year old Anton G Darilek was found with a bullet wound in the head at his Houston residence on February 24 1974. Investigators pursued the death as a possible homicide while funeral arrangements were handled by Kubena Funeral Home. Survivors include his wife Margaret Laura Ann and parents Anton and Viola Darilek.

The Ladies Aid of United Dr. Martin Luther Church in Shiner hosted a birthday party on Monday January 13 1975. Olga Smothers TLH Auxiliary President welcomed guests and introduced honorees. A cake donated by Edward and Mrs Kloesel of Yoakum was cut and the group sang Happy Birthday. A skit Re living Memories From an Old Album was presented and lunch of birthday cake and pimiento cheese sandwiches followed. The next party will be hosted by the KJZT Society of Shiner with date to be announced.
