The Shiner Clipper Club held its annual barbecue on Saturday February 28 1976 at the VFW home starting at 3 p.m. A 5 45 p.m. meal featured boneless beef barbecue. Mikeska Catering Service of El Campo handled the food and club members renewed their 1976 memberships.
Interested individuals may join or renew with Clipper manager Robert Fikac. Annual dues are 7.50 without cap or 10.00 with cap, granting access to home games and the Clip per Tournament at half price and free barbecue. Call 594-2079 to join.
List of patients admitted and dismissals dated March 2 1976. Names include Shiner Flatonia Hallettsville Gonzales Moulton and Gonzales areas with multiple individuals listed and discharge notes for several, including Mrs Annie Berger and Alfred Schramm.
The Men’s Softball League will hold a meeting at City Park on Friday March 5 1976 to elect officers and address any other business.
Electrical power will be cut Friday March 5 from 8 to 9 a.m. for line repair. Local residents advised to store essentials and avoid nonessential travel during the outage.
Shiner youths time capsule mementoes will be shown in the Welhausen Dry Goods windows this weekend. The public is invited to view these items.
Shiner Public School PTO hosts its annual Mop and Broom Sale on Saturday March 6 starting at 8 a.m. Door to door sales and a truck at the depot will offer blind-made merchandise from the Lighthouse for the Blind. Support for the PTO and the visually impaired is requested.
The St Paul Booster Club announces Membership Day on Sunday March 14 at the Shiner VFW Home. Prospective members are invited to attend for live music free refreshments and a free stew supper. Details will be published in the Gazette.
Burglaries occurred at Shiner Public School likely Sunday night. Entry gained through cafeteria gym and office buildings. Deputies Hobbs and DeHarde investigated. Stolen items included two pocket calculators a small desk radio and about ten dollars. Residents with tips asked to contact the Lavaca County Sheriff’s Office.
A grass fire Saturday February 28 at Delmar Laas pasture on Ave A reportedly started when others burned trash. Firefighters contained the blaze and no injuries were reported.
Postmaster Arthur T. Ward announces Shiner Post Office window service hours change effective March 8 1976. The window closes at 4 30 p m and opens at 8 30 a m for a total of eight hours daily five days a week excluding holidays.
The Gonzales County Sheriff's Department urges citizens especially rural residents to watch for suspicious vehicles or persons. Burglary numbers rose sharply from 1974 to 1975 and continued rising in 1976. Residents are advised to note license numbers, vehicle details, and report sightings. secure homes, lock doors, and engrave valuables with identifying marks. The Sheriff emphasized staying alert and helping neighborhood watch efforts.
A representative from the Food Stamp Office Hallettsville will visit the Shiner Sub-Office at City Hall on March 29 16 23 and 30 from 9 00 a m to 12 00 noon. Citizens may file participation applications or obtain information at this session.
A Social Security Office representative from Victoria Texas will be at Shiner City Hall at 9 am on Monday March 8 1976. Residents may file retirement survivor disability or Medicare claims and get help with the Social Security and supplemental security income program.
Gaslight Players stage Charley's Aunt opening Friday March 5 with tickets $1.00 students $1.50 adults. A turkey shoot is scheduled for Sunday March 7 at Vic's Place on Highway 90-A west starting at 1:00 p.m. Participants should bring 12 16 and 20 gauge shotguns with shells furnished. Everyone is invited to join the event.
