A Lavaca County family of fourteen was left homeless after a Thursday evening fire in the Witting area. No injuries were reported and the cause is under investigation.

Pioneer Citizen Minnie Glatzert laid to rest in Shiner

Funeral services were held March 1 1961 at United Dr. Martin Luther Church for Minnie Glatzert 88 born October 9 1872 in Westphalia Germany who died February 27 1961 in Shiner Texas after a lingering illness. Interment followed at Shiner City Cemetery. Survivors include five children ten grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.

New York Man's Death Ruled Accidental in Texas Findings

John J. Grandin of New York was found dead in his locked car at a Wied roadside park near Victoria after an autopsy in Victoria. Pathologist ruled death by carbon monoxide and asphyxiation from carbon dioxide, suspecting sleepiness led to a nap stop. Grandin’s car belonged to Executive Car Leasing Co of Florida and was en route Cocoa Florida to Southgate California. He was identified by papers on his person. a brother, Robert Grandin of Hialeah Florida, survived.

Shiner Girls Basketball Finishes Second in District Standings

Shiner High School girls basketball ends district play with a 5–3 record and second place. Annabell Seifert led scoring in several games with 12 points in the Bastrop win, while Mildred Welhausen tallied 25 against Smithville and 15 against Bastrop.
