March the 10th marked as Clean Up Day. Citizens are asked to clean yards gardens and animal enclosures and prepare trash for haul away. Wagons will collect waste as the inspection committee seeks to crown Shiner the Cleanest Town. The Civic Club.

The February honor roll lists six class groups with teachers and students. Note the total enrollment of 22 across all classes and names including Mrs C B Welhausen Victor Schulze Coria Berckenhoff and Stella Helmers among others.
Campaign for city election in Hallettsville heats up as V J Prasek enters race for city marshal, assessor and collector opposing long-time officeholder O T East. G Kuykendall challenges H Streich for reappointment as secretary and bookkeeper while council trims fees for assessing and collecting.
The board of trustees calls an election to raise the school tax from 10 to 25 cents per dollar of property valuation. The election is set for Saturday April 1. Prof. W. E. has been appointed as election principal.
Dr. W. K. Penrod of Gonzales will preach on Christian Education tonight at 7 45 p m at the Baptist Church. The public is invited to hear this instructive discourse.
The Pythian Sisters announce a regular meeting next Tuesday afternoon at four o'clock. Members are urged to attend and participate in the planned activities.
A student collection raised over 50 dollars for library purposes and 142 volumes ordered. The school plans substantial improvements next year. The Shiner high team beat Halletsville highs 5 to 1 and aims for a rematch in Shiner soon.
Committees complete programs and prize lists for the fair and urge prompt delivery of advertising copy to Secretary Ponton. Governor Ferguson accepts invitation and will attend the fair in Shiner on opening day to give the opening address.
Miss Iane Striebeck aged nine and Master Edgar Birkmann aged thirteen celebrated birthday events last Friday February 25 with light refreshments. The Gazette extends best wishes for many more happy returns. Relatives of Mr J H Lockmann gathered last Sunday to celebrate his birthday with dinner. attendees included Mrs Dick Lockmann and families from Moulton Platonia and nearby towns.
The undersigned merchants of Shiner pledge to close their places of business at 6 p m daily except Sundays from March 1 1916 until the cotton season opens. Names include Welhausen Star Grocery Garbade Lumber Helmes Deutsch Blohm Son Koerner Wolters Wendtland Carnes Williams and others.
A general meeting of Bluecher Lodge O D H S will be held at their park next Sunday March 5 at 1 PM. Afterward the Park Verein will also meet. All members are urged to attend.

County superintendent William Hilers announces two scholarship appointments at the College of Industrial Arts. Recipients pay no incidental fees and receive free textbooks, totaling a value of about $20. Eligibility requires white girls sixteen with basic schooling. appointments must be made before June 1.
The county commissioners at their regular meeting fixed the treasurer salary at 1 percent for receiving and 1 percent for disbursing, totaling about 1300 dollars yearly, down from 2000 dollars last year. They also toured Sweet Home Yokum and Shiner areas Wednesday to inspect road and vegetation work.
