Congratulations to Shiner Texas for being the first city under fifteen thousand population to respond with full quota for Texas. Expressions of appreciation come from Peter Molyneaux for the Gazette Business Men's Club and local citizens who hastened this work and exhibited at Chicago.
The Business Men's Club gathered Thursday at the Royal Cafe with President Denmark presiding. Guest speaker R J Bednar of Philadelphia, a former Shiner resident, discussed conditions in the East and Roosevelt’s policies, plus brewery and tomato trade notes. The meeting announced help for the Hearts Delight dance to support the Community Chest, and noted no meeting until July 13 for the annual officer election.
A group of travelers including Mabel Merrem and her niece Ladelle Merrem of Yoakum leave Saturday for the Century of Progress in Chicago. They will be joined by Selma and Mae Rogge and later by Mrs. Thulemeyer, Mrs. Mikulik of San Antonio, Mrs. Wendtland Jr. and family, Mrs. Edmund Herder, and Mrs. Arthur Kaspar. The entire party have reservations in the same Pullman car and will stay at the same hotel.
Cotton markets show strong activity with the price advancing to 1014 cents. Shiner reports Tuesday receipts totaling 225 bales, reflecting steady demand and exporter activity in the region.
Following a long local custom, all business houses in Shiner will close next Tuesday July 4 for the holiday. Nearby towns advertise celebrations while Shiner observes a general daylong shutdown with no special observance planned.
Citizens visited Hallettsville Tuesday afternoon inviting Shiner residents to the 7th annual July Fourth celebration by the Hallettsville American Legion. Events include music rodeo roping speaking barbecue and stew dinner with a big dance at night promising a good time for all attendees.
Plymouth Oil Company stops drilling Fehrenkamp No 1 after reaching 3052 feet six miles from Shiner. The crew stayed in Shiner for a few weeks and received a complimentary dinner from Ed Gehrels of Texas Co. at Royal Cafe before departure. Derrick and equipment remain. plans to drill again in an adjacent block were noted.

Shiner area sends large group to Austin to join wet forces to repeal the 18th Amendment.
The United Dr Martin Luther church schedules events: a confirmation service tomorrow night at 8 p m, examination service on Friday, June 80 at 8 p m, a confirmation service Sunday July 2 at 10 a m, with Sunday School starting at 9 a m. A senior Luther League meets Tuesday at 8 p m, and Ladies Aid Society gathers Wednesday at 3 p m. Next Sunday July 2 Shiner Baptist Church hosts monthly preaching services at 11 A M and 8 P M with a friendly invitation to all. If no other church claims you for the day consider visiting the Baptist for worship and fellowship. Rev Don E Dulaney held a regular appointment Sunday night at the Methodist Church and will fill both services July 9. He has appointments in Kerrville Assembly July 10 as instructor and choir director, then travels to Fredericksburg for a revival.
Washington reports Postmaster General Farley signed an order restoring the 2c local rate on first class postage starting July 1. The move, under a new law, aims to boost postal business and prevent furloughs, setting 2c per ounce for local letters and cards at 1c. outside cities the rate remains 3c and 1c for cards.
The Catholic Parish of Shiner hosted a feast and bazaar at Bluecher Park to aid the Archdiocese orphanage. Gross receipts reached 681.21 despite being lower than prior years. The event featured a large picnic, a bountiful dinner at 25 cents, and over 200 dance tickets sold.
Chas Kuentzl and H G Mueller departed Sunday by automobile for the Chicago World's Fair, stopping to travel to the exposition and visit exhibits.
Mrs Rud Jaeggli, Mrs J D Gray, Dr Sam Jaeggli and Ed win Jaeggli traveled to Brenham Tuesday to see Mrs Herman Zschappel, who sustained injuries in a bicycle fall. She is getting along nicely, we are glad to report. Also notes a Cynara film listing and Palace Theatre schedule with Ronald Colman.
At the State Press Association meeting in Houston Texas newspapers moved to restore an exhibit at the Century of Progress in Chicago. Texas space was slated as a rest area but without an exhibit. Chambers of Commerce across Houston San Antonio Fort Worth and Dallas pledged funds to open the Texas building July 15. Shiner led with a $1500 pledge and a per town quota of 13 72 based on population, with other towns urged to contribute.
Tonight at 8 o clock the Hallettsville Epworth League of the Methodist Church presents Miss Topsy Tarvy a rollicking three act comedy at City Auditorium Admission 10 15 and 25 cents Come and make it a success.
Charlottenburg School schedules a barbecue and dance on Sunday July 9 with a health demonstration by Mr. L H Male, sent to Lavaca County by the State Health Department from July 5 to 10. Patrons are urged to attend a call meeting next Friday night June 80 at the school house to finalize day plans.
Beginning July 1, Shiner Post Office reverts from second to third class along with 476 other U S offices. The change reduces staff by one and cuts all salaries by sixty percent, but Postmaster Koether's well equipped office remains.
Mr and Mrs Ad Richter have returned from their vacation to Monterey Mexico. The note confirms their travel and arrival back home.
Irma Morgenroth and Ross Bonano wed in a private ceremony at Trinity Lutheran Church Houston officiated by Rev W E Dorre. Attendants included Mayme Simpson as bridesmaid and Jerome Mathews as best man. The couple plans a wedding trip to San Antonio and Austin before settling in Houston.
During a recent vacation, W Paul toured with his wife visiting Walla Chapel Hill and El Campo, detailing a multi town itinerary.
