Last Rites For Pustka Infant

Funeral services were held for Angela Kay Pustka infant daughter of Mr and Mrs Matt Pustka Jr of Shiner. Interment followed in Shiner Catholic Cemetery. She was born and died June 17 1974 at Shiner Hospital. Survived by two brothers and grandmothers Mrs Herbert Zwersche of Yoakum and Mrs Matt Pustka Sr of Wied.

Hail and Windstorm Ravage Fredericksburg Peach Crops

A June windstorm with hail and gusts up to 80 mph damaged Fredericksburg area orchards northeast to southwest. Gardens and ripening peaches suffered heavy losses as trees lost leaves fruit and erosion washed away crops. Pecan trees also damaged with tens of thousands in damage.

Houston man Ben Studeny critically ill in Miami hospital

Ben Studeny of Houston is reported in critical condition at Mercy Hospital in Miami Florida. He and his wife Edith Novak formerly of Shiner were vacationing in Jamaica when illness struck.

Zbranek Infant Buried In Shiner Memorial

Danell Lee Zbranek two months old daughter of Freddie and Alice Zbranek of Shiner died June 22 1974 at Huth Memorial Hospital Yoakum. Graveside rites were held at Shiner Catholic Cemetery with Rev Father Sam Heitkamp officiating Buffington Funeral Home Shiner in charge Surviving include parents a sister Laura and grandparents Laddie Zbranek Henry Grossman Yoakum.

Shiner to Observe Holiday Thursday

Independence Day will be observed in Shiner on Thursday July 4. All stores except usual exceptions will close for the holiday. The First National Bank and the Shiner Post Office will be closed and there will be no rural route deliveries.

KJZT Juniors head to Austin July 1 from the bus station by 3 PM with skirts ready and signed slips. 621st MKR meets July 1 at Green-Dickson Park at 7 30 PM. TOPS KOPS honor Iris Meeks July 1 at TLH 6 15 PM. Committees sought for a July 5 street dance. call leaders to volunteer. Junior Legion Auxiliary assembly June 27 at 10 AM to plan TLH birthday program. No Farm Bureau meeting in July. next session August 13. Broiler fryers roasted whole benefit from 400 oven. Birthday party honors at Trinity TLH June 13 1974

United Dr. Martin Luther Church LCW hosted a birthday party at Trinity Lutheran Home in Shiner. Honorees included resident members L to R Mrs Clotilda Jaks and Rudolph Janak with attendees and auxiliary members naming others and presenting a new US flag. The event featured patriotic songs, readings, and a pledge, and will be followed by a July 18 party hosted by American Legion Auxiliary Unit 201.

Funeral Services Held Tuesday For Willie J. Dreyer

Willie J. Dreyer died June 23 1974 at Shiner Hospital at age 69 years 5 months 22 days. Services were at United Dr Martin Luther Church in Shiner on June 25 with burial in Shiner City Cemetery. Survivors include his wife Emma and son Buford. Burial followed a service led by Rev Grosenbacher with pallbearers from local communities.

Food Fun For Juniors Graduation Party in Shiner

GVEC sponsored Food Fun for Juniors classes honored 27 girls from Shiner elementary and St. Lud mila's schools with Mother's Favorite Kitchen Helper certificates at Shiner High School Gym on June 20 1974. Each graduate received a Willie Wirehand apron and home economics departments received sewing irons. attendees included teachers and families.

Duane Hickman Named Lavaca County Patrolman

Duane Hickman, 28, a Fort Worth native and former Fort Worth Sheriff's deputy, is assigned as Lavaca County Texas Highway Patrolman. He served five years in the Marine Corps and has four months with the Department of Public Safety, working with Patrolman Keith Keener. He is married with three sons Andy Kenny and James.

Car Fire Destroys Vehicle and Damages Home in Shiner

Fire crews answered a blaze at 421 E 13th Street Thursday at 9 20 p m. The car in the garage burned completely and the garage contents and house suffered heavy smoke damage. Cause unknown. Mrs Louise Schovajsa Hruska of Houston to undergo surgery June 26 at St Luke's Hospital in Houston with a five to six day expected stay. Shiner Clippers to Host SCTAL All Star Baseball Game

The South Central Texas Amateur League all star game is set for Thursday July 4 at Clipper Field Shiner. The South Zone teams from Shiner Yoakum Hallettsville and Flatonia face the North Zone from Columbus New Ulm Schulenburg and Weimar. A live radio broadcast by KULM Columbus is planned with pre game ceremonies and flag raising by Shiner Boy Scouts.

Baptist Methodist Bible School Begins July 1

The United Methodist Church and the Shiner Baptist Church join for Vacation Bible School running July 1 through 5 from 9 to 11 30 a m at the Shiner Baptist Church. Children ages 3 to 17 are invited to attend. The program emphasizes Bible centered learning plus crafts play and refreshments.

Youth Club Benefit Dance for Shiner Area

A benefit street dance to aid the Shiner Youth Club is set for Friday July 5 at the Square on 7th Street. The Country Classics play 7 to 11 p.m. with no admission charge but free will donations encouraged. Proceeds aim to reach 1000 for rent utilities furniture repairs and air conditioning ahead of a late August grand opening.
