Rosary recitation Monday night attended by Ben Simper Bernie Simper Willie R Simper Alois Simper of Yoakum and others.
The annual Independence Day celebration at Legion Park Shiner scheduled for Sunday July 4 offers 2:30 p.m. entertainment for all ages with a 3 p.m. lunch of sandwiches cakes and kolaches. Joe Patek and His Orchestra will provide music for a big 8:30 p.m. dance, sponsored by American Legion Kolar Stanek Post No 201 and Auxiliary.
Shiner joins 2300 communities on June 30 for Project HEAD START ceremonies at the Post Office led by Mayor Pro-Tem P. H. Garbade. Mrs. Lyndon B. Johnson will receive a flag at the White House as part of the national tribute to_HEAD START efforts.
The Hallettsville American Legion Post 201 in Shiner hosts a dance at Legion Park on Thursday July 1 to aid rebuilding the Legion Hall destroyed by fire. The Moods provide music. Admission is 1.00 for men and 0.50 for women. Proceeds support reconstruction.
Funeral services were held for John Michael Kaminski, day old son of Mr and Mrs Theodore Kaminski of 1010 East Houston Street Highlands Texas. The Rev Maurice Cho officiated at Earthman Funeral Home. Burial followed at San Jacinto Memorial Park Cemetery. The infant was born June 14 in a Baytown hospital and died June 15. Survivors include grandparents Mr and Mrs W Kaminski of Highlands.
Friends and relatives report Mrs. Adolph Tillie Vancura is recovering well after a major operation at De Tar Hospital in Victoria Texas. Her room is 221 in the De Tar Hospital.
Ignac J Balajka 76 of East Bernard died June 16 after a lingering illness. Funeral services were held June 18 at Urbish Funeral Home and Holy Cross Church. Interment followed. Balajka, born in Czechoslovakia, came to America at 12, married Mary Kubicek, and lived in Moulton Hillje East Bernard and Wharton areas. Survivors include his wife five daughters and several relatives.
Shiner FHA plans a car wash Friday July 2 from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in front of H E Cottage and Shiner Elementary Building with delivery pickup options. Cars $1.00 trucks $1.50. Work schedule lists Sophomores Juniors and Seniors with a $2.00 fine for nonparticipants.
Robert J. Pesek owner of R. J. Pesek Memorials in Hallettsville was elected a director of the Monument Builders of the Southwest at a convention in Austin June 13 15. He attended with Mrs. Pesek and son Thomas. A 12 mile boat ride on Lake Austin and a fish fry were enjoyed with prizes including Mrs. Pesek receiving 25 dollars in cash and a marble tie clasp and cuff link set.
The 26th Annual Guadalupe Valley Electric Cooperative Meeting will be held Friday June 25 at Apache Football Stadium in Gonzales. Registration starts 6:00 p.m. with the meeting at 8:00 p.m. An open house of the new GVEC Headquarters Building on Highway 90 A By Pass is scheduled before the event.
Frank Ullrich a lifelong Shelby resident and retired farmer died suddenly at home Monday June 14 1965. Services conducted at Shelby Lutheran Church June 16 with Rev. Waldemar Wendel officiating. burial in Shelby Cemetery. Survived by wife Minnie Helweg Ullrich two daughters Renatha Ullrich Lillie Blezinger and Herbert Ullrich a grandchild. Funeral by Koenig.
Carroll Sembera pitched his second complete game for the Amarillo Sonics as they routed the Tulsa Oilers 11 to 2 in the final game of an eight game home stand. He improved to 4 3 on the season while Tulsa managed three straight hits with two outs in the seventh. Sembera had earlier earned a complete game win on June 4 against El Paso.
A solemn requiem mass was offered for Igna tius J. Padalecki at St. Gerard's Catholic Church on Wednesday June 16 led by his son Father Alphonse B Padalecki. He died June 13 after a two year illness, aged 60. Burial followed at St. Hedwig's Cemetery. Survivors include his wife Annie and multiple relatives.
Funeral services for Julius W. Seitz were held in Yoakum with a Requiem Mass at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Burial followed in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Pallbearers listed. Rosary recited at Buffington Chapel. Seitz, age 63, died June 14 at Huth Memorial Hospital.
A large turnout is anticipated for Trinity Lutheran Home Shiner on Sunday June 27 from 2 to 4 30 pm as staff and planning committee host an open house. The event invites residents families and visitors from up to 100 miles to view facilities meet staff and enjoy refreshments with proceeds supporting home programs.
Shiner will close Monday July 5 for Independence Day with post office and rural routes halted. Residents are urged to shop Saturday for groceries and readers, advertisers, and reporters asked to submit items early to help publish next week's Gazette.
Mrs. Barnee nee Earline Ullmann of Shiner dies after extended illness in Spahn Memorial Hospital Corpus Christi on June 18 1965. Funeral held June 19 at Dunne Langham and burial at Rosehill Cemetery. Survived by husband Joe Barnee three sons two daughters two sisters one brother and former husband four children born to first marriage.
The Shiner City Cemetery Association warns lot owners that mowing and care will stop unless the $5 annual dues is paid. Owners not paying are asked to arrange upkeep or remit $5 to the association at the First National Bank or to Mrs. Alois Kasper in Shiner.
A J Hybner of Shiner underwent surgery at Methodist Hospital in Houston on Monday June 14 and is reported to be recovering as well as can be expected. He plans recuperation at the Otto Sofka home 5502 Memorial Dr Houston after dismissal, with visits from family friends noted.
