Tri-District Ginners Convention Set for Shiner July 13

The Tri-District Ginners Convention will meet in Shiner on Tuesday July 13 bringing together ginners from the 15th 18th and 19th districts. Louis Trautwein of Shiner invited the 1937 meeting to Shiner and this year John C. Thompson secretary of the Texas Cotton Ginners Association will attend. Trautwein must be notified by July 10 of attendees and families from the above districts.

Heat Wave Opens Summer With Extreme Heat

Monday marked the longest and hottest day of the season with sweltering conditions. The relief lies in it being good cotton weather, signaling the start of summer.

County Commissioner Seim reports progress on the WPA road from Kloesel hill to the river with culverts installed this week. Two miles are finished and four miles total are planned. Seim is praised for doing a fine job.

Crops Show Mixed Signals Across Local Fields

The section reports crops looking fine with no promise of higher yield due to insect pressure. Early corn is now mature. A good rain could benefit late corn without harming cotton, highlighting mixed conditions and rainfall needs for multiple crops.

Shiner Fire Department joins state relief and pension fund

At a May 5 meeting the Shiner Fire Dept adopted a resolution to participate in the State Firemen's Relief and Pension Fund and set a $5 annual payment for members wishing to join. The board of trustees includes the Mayor, City Secretary, Peck Welhausen, Ed Herder and W. C. Schmidt.

Esteemed Tribute To Rev Rector At Shiner and Hallettsville

A large crowd welcomed Rev A E Rector and his wife on a return visit to their former Me thodist charges in Shiner and Hallettsville Last Sunday. Rev Guyon led about 80 Hallettsville members. Rev J W Burns of the local Baptist church joined the services. Mrs Wm Wendtland Jr and Miss Evelyn Dreyer shared in the musical program with Mrs J L Mikulik and Miss Loretta Guyon. Rector delivered a moving spiritual message despite being 82, displaying youthful vigor. The note invites the Rectors to return and promises a warm welcome.

Mrs Roland Osborne Assumes Charge of Local Hospital

Mrs Roland Osborne takes over as superintendent at the local hospital after Miss Helen Havel resigns effective Monday June 21. Osborne, previously the first superintendent when Louise Boedeker led the hospital in Shiner, is well known and remains in demand for professional service. Adele Fikac resigns this week, Emma Grieve of Flatonia fills the vacancy.

County Court Suspends Three Year Sentence in Minor Theft Case

In Monday county court James Claus, a minor, received a three year suspended sentence for theft of a car from Ed Herder of Shiner. His companion James Davis drew a year in the reformatory in a prior trial. Jurors listed include Ad. Msg], Gus Hoerig, Wm. Hinck, Henry Fabian, C. B. Halata and L. E. Denmark.
