At a special City Council meeting on Monday night Paul R. Otto qualified as mayor after winning 138 votes in Saturday’s city election. The election, overseen by F. R. Mergenthaler with assistance from Johnnie Kasper and Oscar Lichey, had no write ins or scratches. Otto, a leading local business figure, has led the Chamber of Commerce, Business Men’s Club and the Board of Education.

Edwin Hoerig Dies at 34 After Illness
Edwin Walter Friedrich Hoerig age 34 died Monday after two months of illness and a recent heart attack. Born November 20 1912 he was a Shiner native and Lutheran church member. Survived by wife Alvira Zimmermann daughter Wyonna five sisters and many relatives. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 30 pm at the United Dr Martin Luther Church with interment at City Cemetery.
