SPH Grads Awarded Diplomas and Library Gift From Kleberg Fund

St Paul High School held baccalaureate services at St Cyril and Methodius Church on May 15 1977 with addresses and awards announced. Commencement followed with diplomas distributed by Rev Patrick Fidgeon. Shiner Public Library received The Golden Free Land book funded by the Alice G K Kleberg Fund detailing German emigrant women’s frontier stories.

Rotary Meeting Highlights and Park Lights Status

Shiner Rotary Club met on Wednesday June 8 with Gus Nollkamper presiding. Invocation by Rev Richard Hammonds. Guest Frank Hutchinson of Garland. Lights for night tennis at Green-Dickson Park installed as a Rotary project. Speaker Richard Williford spoke on Drug Abuse and market restrictions.

FHA To Sponsor Girls Slo-Pitch Tournament in Shiner

The Shiner Chapter FHA sponsors a girls Slo-Pitch Softball Tourney on July 2 3 at Green-Dickson Park. Open to girls 14 and up from leagues and church or school groups. Entry is 20 per team with a June 20 deadline. First game 8:00 a.m. Saturday. Double elimination and finals Sunday at noon.

Winners of the grand opening free prizes were announced last weekend. The Shiner Little League Tournament scheduled for this week is canceled and will not be rescheduled. Players managers and officers honor Paul Malinovsky Sr. for his faithful work with the Little League program and leadership roles. At the Southwest Texas Annual Conference in San Antonio Rev. Travis Rider Jr was appointed to Blanco. After his last sermon June 5 he and his family were honored at a luncheon. Shiner church membership grew notably during his six years, and he left with good relations among local denominations.

Clippers Move Into First Place By Taming Cats

The Shiner Clippers defeated the Flatonia Wildcats 5-2 in Shiner to tie for first place at 6-2 with one regular season game left. Doug Resseler earned the win, striking out eight and delivering eighth innings of shutout relief after a 2-0 deficit. The Clippers added two runs in the fourth and two insurance runs in the seventh. They host Hallettsville Sunday at 3:00 p.m. in the final regular season game prior to playoffs with 10 cent beer day.

Shiner ISD trustees met Wednesday June 8 1977 to review progress on the high school roof ceiling paint and floor projects and cafeteria upgrades. Region III media services 1977 78 funding and bank depository bids were approved. Resignations of Elvis Weise and Mrs Sarah Stalik accepted and 1977 78 contracts awarded.
