Tomato Tom-Tom festival ends after successful run

The Twelfth Annual Tomato Tom-Tom closed after three nights and two days of perfect weather. Grand parade opened on time with many industrial entries and floats featuring duchesses. Shiner participation included the city, Spoetzl Brewery and Hajek, with the Hobo Band receiving strong praise.

Ward Nollkamper couple wed at United Dr. Martin Luther Church

Miss Lillian Nollkamper daughter of Mr and Mrs Arthur F Nollkamper of Charlotte nbury vicinity married Arthur Ward son of Mr and Mrs St J Ward of Yoakum at 7 pm Sunday Rev R Schuetze officiated. The ceremony featured candlelit altar daisies fern and music by Aline Zappe and Irene Klos. The couple will teach South Mustang school while pursuing studies at the University of Texas in Austin.

Dorothy Muras Invited to Shiner Coronation Jubilee

Miss Dorothy Muras has received an invitation from Stockdale to represent Shiner at the Coronation of the Queen of the Third Watermelon Jubilee in Stockdale on June 30 at 8 p.m. A parade will be held Friday morning at 9:30 with visiting duchesses riding on a float.

Improvements A New Home Under Construction

E W Sonntag and force have under construction a new home for Mr and Mrs Glade Welhausen on the lot adjoining the Peck Welhausen and Ben no Holchak homes. The structure will include a kitchen dining room living room two bedrooms den breakfast room two baths hall sun room porch and a concrete terrace. From outward appearance it promises to be a nifty looking home and we know that Glade and Frances will have a just reason to feel proud of it. Extensive improvements are under way on the Welhausen block leading towards the Post Office. A new susp ended awning has been built affording more light and ventilation on the inside also the brick side work is being replaced with concrete. This improvement will add greatly to the appearance and convenience of the buildings. George Janszen has charge of this work.

Improvements in Dr. Turek's Dental Office

The Dental office of Dr. Turek shows a complete change in appearance and equipment. An X Ray unit, a newest type sterilizer, and a Quagulator have been installed. New linoleum and paint enhance the office's look.

Local Sick List Includes Home Return and Hospital Updates

Mrs Frances Blinka has come home from San Antonio and is improving while Rev Blinka returns to the hospital for further treatment. Mrs Paul Stock underwent an operation at the local hospital and is doing nicely. Miss Marine Riske was operated on for appendicitis at the local hospital. Robert Janda, a patient at a Houston Hospital, submitted to a second operation Monday. We hope the boy will mend quickly and return home soon.

Bond Election Proposed in Shiner Texas for Streets

The City of Shiner proposes a July 5 1939 election to authorize 90000 in city bonds for paving and surfacing streets payable over forty years with four percent maximum interest. Voting officers are named and eligibility requires residency and tax payment. Notice to be posted at City Hall and published twice weekly at least fourteen days prior.

Saturday evening at 6:30 the United Dr Martin L Church hosted the marriage of Miss Ethel Voskamp daughter of Mr and Mrs A Voskamp of Sugar Land to Marcus A Voskamp son of Mrs A Voskamp. Rev Rinara Schuetze officiated with attendants Mr and Mrs Hy Schierschwitz. The couple plans a wedding trip to San Antonio Kerrville and Fredericksburg before settling in Shiner.

Dickson Farmers League Holds Regular Meeting

The Dickson Branch of the Farmers League met on Tuesday night June 13 with 53 members signed up. Discussed community business and planned a near future social for the branch. Committee members named E V Krepei Isidor L Simper and Jerry Veselka. Guest Lee Sedlmeyer of Shiner attended, noting his perfect attendance. After adjournment, a large crowd enjoyed a free dance with music by Emil Krejci Ed Mikes and Raymond Krejci.

Corpus Christi Celebration Enlivens Local Parish Procession

The parish observed Corpus Christi last Sunday with four ornate altars, candles, and cut flowers. Rev. Bily led the Blessed Sacrament procession, joined by Monsignor and many altar boys. Bannered societies and flower girls joined the march while Pateks Band provided sacred music.
