Lightning Sets Fire to Barn Near Here
During a rain and electrical storm, lightning struck a barn owned by Joe Hravetsky seven miles from here, igniting flames that consumed the structure and its contents including feed, harness and cotton. Loss estimated at about 3000 dollars with no insurance. A five eighths inch rain fell early, expected to aid crops.

Cotton prices rising to 20 cents spurred sales in Shiner and nearby towns. Over the past ten days Moulton sold 600 bales Yoakum 600 bales Gonzales 800 bales and Shiner 500 bales. The increased activity helps business and puts money in circulation.

Cotton price rise drives Yoakum sales in a dull season
The advance in cotton prices spurred many sales in Yoakum over the past week and ten days, with about 600 bales sold. Lot sizes varied from a few to forty or fifty bales, at around 20 cents a pound and some better grades at 21 cents. This activity added just over $60,000 into local banks during a typically slow period.
