Lavaca County Commissioners plan to start ambulance service by July 1, 1973. Yoakum Fire Dept will run Yoakum unit. Shiner Moulton Hallettsville units use volunteers paid by the county. Volunteers receive 10 dollars per call, plus 2 dollars hourly out of county. users pay 30 dollars within county, higher out of county.

Impressive Rites For Former Resident Mrs. John Hauschild
Mrs. John Hauschild nee Mattie Koenning of Plainview died at Hale Center Nursing Home at 6 10 p m Tuesday June 5 1973 after a stroke in September 1972. She was 79 and buried in Shiner City Cemetery with services at United Dr Martin Luther Church. She lived in Shiner Harlingen and Plainview and operated a nursery for 30 years. Survivors include son Ruben and daughter in law Dorothy of Plainview, three sisters, two brothers, four grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Her life was marked by faithfulness devotion and loyalty to family church and community.

Mrs. Katie Wendel Hoepfl, 83, of Moulton died June 2 1973 at Shady Oak Nursing Home after a lingering illness. Services were held June 4 at St. Joseph Catholic Church Moulton with burial in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Hermann Sons Lodge members and local residents. Surviving are two sons, one brother, four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Her husband died in 1953.

The Shiner Independent School District board met Wednesday June 6 with all members present. Resignations of elementary principal James Stanley business education instructor Dixie Davis janitor Ed Chumchal and cook Lillie Seifert were accepted. Johnny B Lewis was hired as elementary principal for 1973-74 and as bus driver. Joe Fred Chandler was elected high school science teacher and bus driver. Ann Rider replaces Davis as business education instructor and Elsie Vaclavik replaces Seifert in the lunchroom. The board approved summer janitorial help through the Community Action Committee Victoria and awarded four job slots in the program with two units.

Funeral services for Adolf Joe Filipp of Moulton were held at St. Joseph Catholic Church with a Requiem Mass. He died June 2, 1973 at Huth Memorial Hospital Yoakum at age 71. The service followed a rosary at Smith Funeral Home and he is survived by siblings and a stepsister.
Hospital Day Plans With Entertainment At Legion Park
Hospital Day celebration set for July 1 1973 at Legion Park features booths concessions home made goods and meals. Music runs 2:00 p.m. to midnight with The Velvets Sundowners Country Classics and The Rounders indoors and four bands outdoors in the beer garden with polka waltz and western tunes. A country auction starts at 2:00 p.m. with antiques. other attractions include music games fish and bazaar. Proceeds support the hospital building fund nearing completion.

Conserve Power Urged in 30 Percent Reduction Plan
Twenty nine agricultural producers from Gonzales and Lavaca counties attended a Guadalupe Valley Electric Cooperative meeting in Gonzales to hear about the power supply crisis and a proposed nine point Summer Energy Conservation Program. GVEC General Manager Milton D. Hines outlined elevated generation costs due to fuel oil use and urged voluntary conservation to reach a 30 percent area reduction in energy use. The meeting noted LCRA services 30 municipalities and 11 rural cooperatives with about 780000 people. Attendees hailed from Gonzales Cost Smiley Shiner and Hallettsville.

The Hospital Building Fund remains $50,170 short of its $90,170 goal and appeals to individuals and organizations for pledges and events. Citizens are urged to contribute, honor 1973 pledges, and support July 1 celebrations and other benefits to preserve the town hospital.
