Donna R. Wiesner a 16 year old Churchill High School graduate from Shiner and Donna plans to join an Educational Expeditions International field team to Guatemala. She will spend 16 days at a jungle temple site discovered in 1928 and restored in 1957. She aims to dig out through the jungle by banana boat after the expedition.

Lavaca Farm Bureau selects winners for 1974 Citizenship Seminar

The Lavaca County Farm Bureau held the county eliminations for the 1974 Texas Farm Bureau High School Students Citizenship Seminar on May 7 at Hallettsville High School Auditorium. First place Betty Meyer Moulton, second Liz Vincik Shiner, third Patsy Patek Shiner. The three advance to Baylor University July 15–19 for the statewide seminar to learn about American heritage and private enterprise.

Silver Jubilee Honors for Rev John Wagner at San Antonio Mass

The 25th anniversary of Rev John A. Wagner’s ordination was celebrated in Holy Family Church San Antonio with a Mass attended by Shiner guests and a reception. Mrs Emilie Roznovsky is reported recovering after surgery in Victoria.

Mrs. Bertha Michaelis aged 86 years 5 months 26 days died at Shiner Hospital Tuesday June 11 1974 at 12 20 p.m. The body lies in state at Buffington Funeral Home Shiner until 1 00 p.m. Thursday June 13 then to United Dr Martin Luther Church for services at 2 00 p.m. Burial at Shiner City Cemetery.

Fire Destroys Barn at Stock Farm North of Shiner

Shiner Volunteer Fire Department answered a silent alarm at 1 30 p.m. Saturday June 8 at the Paul H Stock farm three miles north of Shiner. A blazing barn and its contents including about 4000 bales of feed and several sacks of mixed feed were consumed by high winds and the fire destroyed the building and $85 worth of lumber.
