Pastures Needed for Dairy Farms
Dairy expert John A. Arey of North Carolina State College argues that many farms lack good pastures. He urges treating pastures as crops, planting fertile land with grass seed and keeping weeds down. Regular top dressing with manure or fertilizers boosts yields, and converting unimproved or rolling land into pasture can raise value from six to ten dollars per acre when cream is sold for butter.

Mineral Mixtures Very Important for Cattle
A Colorado Dairy Herd Improvement report urges mineral mixtures for dairy cattle. Cows lose minerals during lactation and do not store them, so supplementing rations with steamed bone meal or a lime stone bone meal salt mix prolongs production and promotes healthier cows and a larger calf crop.
