The Twentieth Century Club voted to discontinue its regular program and meet at the Red Cross Rooms for Red Cross work. Miss Agnes Koniakovsky led the day’s lesson, the concluding chapter of Tennyson’s Princess. Next meeting planned June 20 at four to six.
Roscoe Canon of Shiner spent Wednesday afternoon in our city en route to Sublime to visit relatives. He returned to Shiner yesterday and sits with New Orleans. He is the second eldest son of City Marshal J. M. Canon of Shiner. their eldest son Roy M. Canon serves in the U S Army with the First Texas Cavalry recently formed at Yoakum.
Last Friday at 5 30 p m Alfred Jungbecker riding a bicycle collided with a transient roadster on the street. He suffered head injuries and was unconscious for hours before being taken to Shiner hospital where Dr Schulze treated scalp wounds. Friends report injuries are not internal and he should soon resume his store duties.
A program outlined for Shiner on Tuesday afternoon June 25 outlines a 2:00 p.m. general meeting and canning demonstration with a special speaker car arriving 1:21 p.m. and departing 7:25 a.m. the next day. Committees led by A J Blohm and Peck Welhausen coordinate advertising and transportation with local officials and citizens urged to supply autos.
Lena Richter Nora Hussner and Messrs Herbert Wuiters and LeRoy Buescher travel to Fentress Sunday in a motored trip noted in local notices.
Oil Mill Machine Shop and Garage promotes Johnson's Prepared Liquid Wax as a finish preserver for new cars and a restorer for older cars to boost resale appeal.

A. Hoffmann died in New Braunfels Texas on Wednesday after a short illness. The funeral was held at 10 this morning at Comal cemetery with Rev. G. Rhitiweg officiating. Hoffmann, born in Silesia, was active in town affairs as alderman school trustee and mayor and helped build the water system. He is survived by his wife Minnie Homann and several children and grandchildren.
Mrs Louise Seydler and son Julius Mrs C G Blohm and daughter Bernice went to San Antonio last week to visit George C Seydler at Camp Travis.
Mr and Mrs Newton Ledbetter of Fort Worth and Miss Myrtle Ledbetter of Cost spent Monday in the L B Richter home.
Roscoe Canon and Eddie Schmidt passed examinations for Naval service and were ordered to Mare Island California last week.
The Pythian Sisters designate Wednesday afternoons for Red Cross work at the Red Cross Work Room. All are welcome to participate any day. State headquarters requests each organization to pick an afternoon and form a Red Cross unit, with Shiner Temple joining on the stated day.
Mesdames S. A. Thulemeyer Eila E Lane Louise Thulemeyer Stella Mae Brehm Augusta Birkmann and Messrs E F Wolters Wm Wendtland Walter n oakum attended a concert. Mrs Wolters assisted by delivering two excellent violin numbers.
Emmett Schuhmann left Wednesday morning to spend the summer with his father at Rowena.
A letter from A O Dreyer in El Paso reports Ida Dreyer is much improved. She has left the hospital but remains under treatment. The couple is now living at home and dining together as she recovers, with hopes for full restoration.
Walter Stulken of Breslau elected secretary of the Lavaca County Merchants Association at the Tuesday meeting. The current secretary Oscar C B Nau resigns effective June 15 to join Cuero Chamber of Commerce. Nau praised for service and the association, now strong in the state, loses his leadership. Miss Theresa Jensen of Cameron visits her parents C F Jensen and wife.
Notice to the voters states Walter F. Stulien withdraws his candidacy for District Clerk after being elected secretary of the Lavaca County Retail Merchants Association. He thanks supporters for their help and requests voters' continued support.
Mrs. A Pfaender departed last week to visit her children in Chicago Illinois.
Mrs L B Richter with Miss Richter Miss Fern and Master Saunders attended the funeral of Little Hilmer Miller at Cuero last week.
