Representative Citizen Hajek Dies After Prolonged Illness

John F Hajek of Mt Olive Shiner and Flatonia dies at 69 after years of illness. Born Praha Fayette County March 25 1868 he married Mary Fici Oct 4 1887. Survived by wife six children fourteen grandchildren two brothers and a sister. Funeral at family home then Shiner Catholic Church with Msgr Netardus and Father Bily. burial in Catholic Cemetery. Members of O D H S and S P J S T lodges attend.

Tomato market ships 640 cars by yesterday evening

Yoakum Times reports 640 cars of tomatoes shipped from the tomato belt by yesterday evening, with prices 2.14 to 8 cents per car. Last night’s shipments add about 11 cars, raising Yoakum records to 245 cars.

Yoakum Tom-Tom Held Despite Heavy Rain

Yoakum held its Tom-Tom celebration on opening day as heavy rain led to postponements but a crowd of about 20,000 enjoyed a full day of parade pageantry and events. despite the downpour, locals reported a cheerful mood with smiles and renewed enthusiasm for the festival.

A Gazette subscriber from Houston sends a farewell note announcing her departure on a world cruise. She began from San Francisco aboard the S S Asama Maru visiting Honolulu Japan and China Manila Singapore Java Colombo Bombay and Egypt before reaching the Holy Land Naples Geneva Paris Cherbourg and the Queen Mary return voyage to New York and Houston on October 10th. It marks her second trip abroad and her first around the world.
