Formation Of Polka And Waltz Assn Of Texas

The third annual Polka and Waltz Festival will be held at Ellinger on Sunday June 11 1967 with eleven bands and hundreds of fans attending. Charter members Cloverleafs Johnny Knesek Bills Polka Boys Victor Caka Tony Janak George Machart Bay City Dutchmen Peppermints Ray Baca Hi Toppers Rudy Kurtz join the new Polka and Waltz Association of Texas based in Corpus Christi with Jim Lenken as chairman. The event at the Chamber of Commerce Hall will begin 1:00 p.m. with the greatest Polka bands in Texas sponsored by the association.

Lutheran Church School Closes Friday June 9

Vacation church school at United Dr. Martin Luther Church ends this Friday after two weeks with 102 children and 20 teachers. The course God and My Life inspired students and parents are invited to view their work Thursday evening or Friday morning.

Rev E M Jordan Returns as Pastor at First Methodist

The First Methodist congregation rejoiced as Rev. E M Jordan was returned as pastor for another year. The official board requested the return, announced at the Southwest Texas Conference session in Travis Park Methodist Church San Antonio. Mrs Jordan accompanied him and Don Kaspar served as lay delegate from the local church.

Notice To Cemetery Lot Owners

The Shiner City Cemetery Association asks those who clean their own lots to place only discarded flowers and greenery in containers. The sexton complains sand and gravel in the containers makes them hard to move. Those not contributing to cemetery upkeep should bring their own containers.

Last Rites For Mrs. G Douglass Sr.

Mrs. George Douglass Sr. of Route 2 Yoakum died at home May 29 1967 aged 96. Funeral services were May 31 at Buffington Yoakum and a Requiem Mass followed at St. Josephs Catholic Church. Burial in St. Josephs Cemetery. Survived by son George four daughters three grandchildren six great grandchildren.

Rites Held For H H Sedimeyer

Funeral services for Harry H Sedimeyer of Rosenberg were held in Rosenberg at 2 pm on May 19 1967, with graveside rites in Fayetteville Cemetery at 4 pm. He died May 17 1967 at age 72 7 17. He served in WWI and worked 35 years for the railroad. Survivors include wife Bessie Sedlmeyer and relatives in San Antonio Rosenberg Shiners.

Remmers Named Top Llano Jaycee

Oren Buddy Remmers received the Key Man Award as Outstanding Llano Jaycee for 1966 67 at the Llano Junior Chamber of Commerce installation banquet and dance May 26 at the Ramblin Rose. He was named a director and has served as Jaycee treasurer and secretary treasurer of the 1967 Junior Livestock Show. He is the son of Otto C. and Mrs. Remmers of Shiner and is married to Gloria Ann Kloesel. The couple has two sons, Jeffrey Charles and Kirk Wade.

Flatonia Parish Picnic Slated

Sacred Heart Parish Flatonia hosts a parish picnic at the Parish Hall on Sunday June 11 with masses at 6 and 10 am. A family style dinner at 11:30 am and supper at 5:30 pm feature sausage stew fried chicken and dressing. Tickets are 1.25 for adults and 50 cents for under 12. A Friendly Riders trail ride begins at Elm Grove at 7:30 am arriving 11 am. An old time country auction at 2:30 pm with refreshments games and music by Johnnie Holub Orchestra.

Bill Cunningham Named Division Seven Key Club Lieutenant Governor

Plainview High School junior Bill Cunningham was elected lieutenant governor for Division Seven of the Texas-Oklahoma Key Club District at Tulsa. He will serve through April 1968 and will oversee Plainview Tulsa Levelland divisions. Cunningham, active in football and baseball, also earned the Eagle Scout award and is involved with St. Alice Catholic Church and local youth groups.

Brenham Band Director Walt Paul Resigns for Hillsboro Post

Walt Paul resigns after three-year term as Brenham High School band director to assume duties as band director and music instructor at Hill Junior College Hillsboro starting June 1. Under his leadership Brenham district solo and ensemble participation grew from nine to 68 students and medal winners from three to 33 with three students named to the all district band this year. He previously led Bloomington High School for four years and earned a BA from Lamar Tech in 1960 and an MA from Van derCook College of Music in 1965. He is the son of Walter and Mrs. Paul of Shiner, married with one daughter, and now resides at 203 Happy Lane Hillsboro.

Lutheran Credit Union Formed By Shiner Residents

Ten people from Shiner joined the formation of the Lutheran Associated Federal Credit Union in Austin at Messiah Lutheran Church on June 2. The group, approved by the LSA Board, names Rev. Rolf A. Normann as key organiser pending federal approval. Members from Austin Round Rock and Shiner will hold shares and elect officers after approval. Attendees included George Fiedler and H. D. Johnson among others.
