A Social Security Office representative from Victoria will visit Shiner at 9 AM at City Hall Monday June 5 to assist residents with retirement survivor disability and Medicare benefit claims. Open to public and St Ludmila's Academy students by teacher referrals. No tuition. final registration June 2.

A Texas Highway Patrol release from Corpus Christi shows Lavaca County posting the lowest rural traffic accident rate in five counties Calhoun DeWitt Jackson Lavaca Victoria. Through four months of 1967 Lavaca had no fatalities while others reported deaths and Lavaca also had the lowest personal injury and property damage figures in the area.
Thirty five eighth grade students received diplomas at St. Ludmila's Academy on May 22 1967 in Saints Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church. Mass and communion were followed by Father Hanacek delivering remarks and presenting diplomas to names including Mary Lou Aschenbeck Ludmila Chilek Lillian Dusek Robert Filip Theresa Fric Paul Galovic and others.
The United Dr. Martin Luther Vacation Church School began Monday May 29 with 94 children and 20 staff members. Daily routine includes devotions, Bible study, songs, stories, recreation, creative activities and refreshments, all centered on the course God And My Life.
Albert Mayer Se won the highest eighth grade academic award at the Awards Day Program at Crockett Junior High School in Port Lavaca on Friday May 19 1967. He also received the social studies crafts and perfect attendance awards. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Albert J Mayor of Point Comfort and grandson of Mr and Mrs Fritz Boedeker of Shiner.
Two Shiner residents win 1967 68 Opportunity Award Scholarships at Texas A&M University William Raymond Dierksen and Dennis Michael Klekar named by Student Aid Director Robert M Logan Scholarships range 200 to 800 dollars annually for four years and renewable totaling up to 350000 dollars. Funds come from Association of Former Students University Development Fund citizens and organizations and federal educational funds.
